I vote for Laurell K Hamilton's series, either the Anita Blake Series or the Meredith Gentry books. Her character designs/descriptions are right out of a manga. Plus since the books are supernatural adventures, the characters have got the powers and attitudes to pull it off visually.
Anyone else?

I have a big stupid love for Suzanne Brockmann's military romances. I can imagine them as comics very easily.
I'd also love to see Julia Quinn's Regency Romances as manga. And hey, her books are published by Harpers Collins! Hint, hint Tokyopop! ^_^
The only other thing I can think of is Stephen King's Dark Tower, and Marvel's already taking care of that one.

1984 would be so creepy as a manga... Well, it's creepy on its own, really.
I would say Harry Potter, but that would never happen. Plus, I already have a bunch of doujinshi...
I'd like to see Meredith Ann Pierce's Dark Angel trilogy as a manga, if at least to see the characters drawn out.

OMG! I SO agree! Vanyel would be SO the Bish! Can you just imagine? Shonen-ai dream :)
I'd like to see Meredith Ann Pierce's Dark Angel trilogy as a manga, if at least to see the characters drawn out.
*SQUEE* I thought the vampire prince was always bishie material :) Use the Kinuko Craft cover as the character design *swoons*
I'd also like to see:
Tanith Lee's Silver Metal Lover
Sharon Shinn's ArchAngel series (Ooh, and the mangaka would have to be Higuri Yuu!)
Judith Tarr's Alamut series (Prince Aidan was written to be a pale, lanky bishounen *dreamy sigh* Mitsukazu-style would be nice :) )
I bet there's a whole bunch more I'm forgetting.

The Narnia series would make a nice manga. Well...sorta. I dunno. I'm just looking at my bookshelf right now. It's mostly fantasy/sci-fi.

Dune!
The battles would be great with the Fremen and the Shakadar(sp?). Maybe it would better as anime because action in the novel is so fluid it would need motion to capture it. Ethier way would be great because they could do all the great effects thats hard in real life.

I would like to see some of Shakespeare's work into manga. I don't think it has been done yet. Or the Animorphs series. Remember that children's novel in the late 90s? Secret Garden would be good too.

one of my dreams is to adapt a classic novel to comic form. like a huge elaborate multiple-volumed edition of something like catch-22, the brothers karamazov, or mishima's sea of fertility tetralogy. or shorter, self-contained adaptations of hermann hesse's siddhartha, henry miller's tropic of cancer, kerouac's on the road, anything by haruki murakami.
although that's kind of stepping outside the realm of the english language... oh well.

Fahrenheit 451. That'd be so awesome as a manga.
I agree! That would be an awesome manga (and so creepy. That book gave me nightmares! You know you're a bookworm when the thought of people burning books makes you want to cry...).
Sabriel and Shades Children by Garth Nix would both make great manga. They have the right descriptive quality and awesome characters with great plots. Plus some really good humor: I mean, come on, the scene when Goldeye has his first Sex Ed class? Hilarious!
Also, Totto-chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. It's such a whimsical, beautiful story about the authors childhood in Japan before WWII. I love the book, and think it would make a beautiful manga.

I would like to see some of Shakespeare's work into manga. I don't think it has been done yet...
I have some Shakespeare manga...they are short story compilations, though. I'm pretty sure they haven't come to the US yet, but some names are pretty big...like Sanazaki, Harumo has a few books like that... umm...This one: it's a lady's comic, so prbly not for younger audiences:
ロミオとジュリエット―シェイクスピア~悲恋に香る悪の華
(http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4575724785/qid%3D1144514840/503-3784119-4455939) (Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare ~ Evil Flowers that Smell of Tragic Love...or Flowers of Evil Scented with the Tragedy of Love...or something like that).
A lot of the Grimm Douwa books by Bunkasha (publisher) have a few Shakespeare themed stories :) I'm sure there's a lot more.
Watership Down....and cute little bunnies they were.
Pride and Prejudice? Jane Eyre? (ok, now I'm just showing off)
Watership Down in one of my faves :) Somehow there aren't too many manga with animal characters as the main...hmm...well, there was the cat one...Diary something...Mikkan Enikki (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/459288115X/qid=1144515249/sr=1-18/ref=sr_1_2_18/503-3784119-4455939). It was REALLY good :) Not as adventurous as Watership Down by any means, but still a very good read, especially if you like animals.
I'm pretty sure I saw an ad for a Jane Eyre manga somewhere...but I can't remember where. I don't own it...so...oh, and there was a Wuthering Heights one in the same ad... Heheh, there's even a "Gone with the Wind" manga called "Kaze to Sarinu"...ugh, I'm procrastinating and going off on tangents again.... :P
But... SQUEE~! Lots of support for The Herald Mage Series! WHEE~! Looks like it'd definately sell well, eh? That's like

"His Dark Materials trillogy by Philip Pullman, and then there's the Dark Tower by Stephen King, that must be done in a manga-style, preferably by a well-known manga-ka that can get all of the features right and not mess it up. The comics kind of scare me and there isn't enough of it..."

The more I think about the Otherland series, the more I like that idea as a manga or anime. I can even think of one crucial aspect: the real world could be done in hand-drawn style, maybe even in black and white; while 'otherland' can be done in colour CGI! You know, "hyper-realism".
That would rock.

"Perhaps. But it would make a good manga/anime series, heck, most manga that I've seen is slightly dark yet meant for the children of pre-adolesence. However, the ending was a little dissappointing; although, overall, I am quite happy with it. And I'm sixteen!"

I would like to see some of Shakespeare's work into manga. I don't think it has been done yet.
My friend has a manga version of MacBeth. I think it's an American production. It's really funny because they keep the original dialogue intact. XD
I also think His Dark Materials would make a great manga. It's got a lot of action, emotion, ideas, and shape-shifting animal sidekicks (who actually have more depth and symbolic meaning than it sounds like). Just as long as they do it right!!
And yes!! Edgar Allen Poe would be fantastic! Despite its tiring fame, I must admit that I truly love "The Raven."
Surely the Bible has been done in comic form before. Not manga though, I suppose.
To whoever said that Harry Potter wouldn't happen...Are you kidding? I think it's entirely plausible (sadly). Have you seen the way HP is capitalized on? As soon as they find out that manga is marketable...I wouldn't be surprised to see a Harry Potter manga.
