The idea was originally going to be a webcomic, but I'm now gonna do a pitch for TP later this year.

great work are you going to pitch this specific comic?

:D

Aye, but I'll pitch some pages from a little further into chapter 1 as the conversations more powerful for that particular scene plus it'll show more of the things they like to see in a submission.

Currently, I'm working more on the script/timeline etc as it was originally meant as a webcomic and although I had a story for the webcomic, things are pretty loose when you're drawing for yourself.

Nice. Good perspective. I'm curious to see what it looks like after (if) you ink it.

I'm curious too lol I'm still trying to work on a style similar to Hiroaki Samura and I've just ordered Rapidograph Pens to practice with. I don't like my lines to be TOO perfect as I wanna attract a more mature readership and I feel if my inks are less 'comicy' I'll have the right mood I'm looking for.

Thanks for the comment on the perspectives. I seem to have no trouble doing them free hand rather than getting all technical on myself, which is a blessing!!

i have a story but am taking all comments i can on it.

here it is. its a 20 page story that is the begining of a bigger story...

there is 2 kids at this cool looking gate. one of them is curious on whats on the other side. the gates teleport you to other places in the world but you can come back as soon as you want. this gate teleports the main character named Kenji to another far off place. the story moves into the future. after that kenji is sitting at a campfire where he is taking to a girl named amy. an old man appears and tells them that his village is being attacked. kenji runs to catch the demons for some reason. after he finds them he reveals that he himself is a demon and is looking for a way back to his home. after defeating the demons that attack him for no reason he gets information on where the gate is. he heads of and amy decided to follow him...

well, thats a quick (really quick summary). what do you all think. the more people say stuff the more it helps thanks!!

I put up a new inked page over at deviant (http://antz82.deviantart.com/)

Next I'm gonna show it toned + lettered. Kinda like a step by step process. Taking comments to improve on each step. There's already some space for improvements that I've noticed, but then, I'm really my own worse critic so wanna hear from youz all ;)

I've inked one of the pages and plan to tone and letter it as a finished result. With my inks I really just like to ink the pencil lines and finish the image in photoshop.

I'm working on other pages for my TP pitch, so comments and ways to improve are welcome.

Cheers

The last ink page i put up i wasnt too keen on it as it didnt have the mood i was looking for. So i went back and did a little hatching.

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j176/Antz82/penned2.jpg

When i scanned it, however, and tried to clean it up a little, some of the detail started to fade so i did what i could not to lose any further detail(which also meant leaving some pencil strokes in).

This page was me playing around with the toning for the first time, so feel free to drop any hints on improvements. The rain effect took a little bit of time to get right. Every online tutorial i tried just didnt seem to produce what i was looking for. The lettering isnt too hot. Its really just there for a read. I'm gonna check out the lettering tutorial on TP next.

:D cooooolll!

I thought it may've looked a little too dark in relation to what I've seen from everyone else, but then I guess my styles different and I'm going for a different mood.

I'll try the gamma correction next. Any help is welcome ;)

I like your stuff, very actiony and serious (which I like better then cutsey stuff). You might want to watch your toning a bit so things don't look busy and confused.

Wolfman

Thank you both :D

Yeah, the toning is something i feel i could work on and will, though alot of people have already said they love the toning + its works well with my style of drawing i think. I guess every setting tells a different mood. In this scene things are a little gloomy however.

The cutsey stuff is alright, although I like to read more mature comics like Akira etc I find their stories far more interesting and better. Its a style in storytelling I'm very much adopting ;)

TO be honest somehow the pencils seem better than the final image... something go lost.. (but why, dammit, WHY??? O.o)

I think that the final ink looked good. I like your style of drawing. As someone previously stated, its not the cutesy stuff, but it still looks awesome..I don't tone i shade, so something like this is fascinating to me. lol.

I'm really glad I'm getting some negative comments ;)(constructive i hope though, so i can learn from)

I felt the same when i first inked the pencil. I'm not as confident with inks as i am with pencils, so maybe my work would look better(or not) if i were to shade and render completely in pencil?? That'd be interesting i think. Although saying that, the final image has grown on me as i think the ink gave it some depth that i felt was missing when it was pencilled + the mood and tone of the manga story requires the ink strokes NOT to be perfect and clean. The tones, im still not sure of. I've had a lot of good feedback about them, but Im still learning.

I'm not into the cutesy drawings at all to be honest, not unless its something I play on my ps2 :p

Thanks for the time and comments

I think this is where problems stems from. I had that too - my inks were nothing like my pencils (as with the feeling). When you get used to inking a bit you'll be able to put the same feeling in ink** :)

I dunno. I've bought tons of "how to draw comic books" over the years. One thing they seem to agree on most is that when you ink over your pencils there should be a different feel to it as if you arent using the pencil lines at all as a guide line.

I think this is where i went wrong the first time i inked the page. The second time I tried inking(or added with some hatching etc)I definitely had more fun with as i didnt feel restricted in my movements regards to the inks(though sometimes this is where things go horribly wrong and i screw up an image lol)

Wow - very nice artwork. For some reason is seems to remind me of the Sandman Graphic Novels. Anyway please keep up the great work and I am sure you will continue getting better!

SpasticMouse

Yeah, i like the artwork from the sandman graphic novels too. Its got that kinda gritty feel about it thats only seen in so many comic series that edges for real life. I think if i was published my work would fall into a more 'independant section of style', like you have with films(low key. stories more centre fold than the art)

I've just started work on my pencils for my pitch so if i post anything soon, they'll probably be some character sketches etc

Cool

Hey all, its been a while since i posted anything, so thought I'd give yous this. The character, John, is from the submission I'm working on for Tokyopop. He doesnt actually get his thumb chopped off, but I thought it'd look pretty cool to do it for this piece :D

I used my mobile to take a pic of myself and from that drew this, shaded and rendered it in pencil and added the colour in photoshop as well as the background. I like the results, but i might go back and redo the blood sometime...just to get it right!!

this one is my hand at digitally colouring/toning etc for the first time. theres a small tutorial over on my deviant page about cleaning up a scanned image that i worked out. its on the comments of the drawing.

Enjoy!

I like your edgy style, it makes you stand out from the typical line-art style. Got anymore work done on the rest of the pages to show us?

Cheers man. I'm more settled than what i was with my style before, still gotta put in a lot of practice to work on some new techniques.

I've been doing mostly these type of character drawings to keep my skill in check. Write now I'm working on the writing side of things for my submission, although I have the 6pages of comic drafted up that I'm gonna start soon.
