LOL Miroku!

But uh. Sorry I lost interest in this show A LONG time ago. I mean back when they were airing the first few episodes, sure I was into it. But now? I swear it's very annoying now. I just can't stand it! Oh well.

Anyways, like Miroku said. Nope.

I watch it on occasion, the episode your talking about is one of the more recent episodes.

Its fun to watch for you 'Im not supposed to be laughing at this' humor.

South Park was starting to get really stale but I think they've redeemed themselves in the last couple of seasons. I've started watching again and most of the new episodes are hilarious.

South Park is hands-down, one of my favorite shows. I've seen every episode at least 3-4 times, some of them way more than that.

That aside, the thing that keeps SP great is the fact that it's so topical, so in touch with current events and things that are going on in the world. It would have become boring if it had stayed just with the old standard of doing funny, strange things as in the first season, but the fact that they added in later such brilliant commentary about various current events have made the show amazing.

This week's show was great, too. (The Smug Alert episode.)

South Parks great, I've watched it sense it debuted way back when, and I still watch it today.

The only recent thing that I don't like about it is the way they killed off Chef, not so much that he was killed off, just the way they did it.

It was never meant to be a kids show. Notice it comes on Comedy Central (not a kid's channel) at 10:00pm (not a kid's time) and is rated TV-MA (not a kids rating)? It's been like that sense the beginning.

Exactly. This was never meant for kids to watch. Besides from often being inappropriate, it also deals with a lot of topics that kids don't understand.

SPOILER (not really): They're going to confront Chef one more time in an epic battle then before he dies they take off his mask and his face turns out to be a bald, pasty white guy. His voice will also change into a lame-o white guy voice (probably the same voice they use for almost every adult male character in the show). Anyway, I wish they'd bring back Pip and Tweak. They ran Butters to the ground the last few seasons, so why not bring those older characters back into the spotlight? They should also bring back Mr. Mackey and Officer Barbrady. This is why the Simpsons are so much better, because they never forget to include almost all of their 300 plus characters in every episode. South Park has trouble remembering like 50.

Really...? I'm intrigued...

Here's the summary:

Ep. 10-03 CARTOON WARS:
Cartman and Kyle are at war over the popular cartoon, "Family Guy." Kyle loves "Family Guy" and hates Cartman. The two boys embark upon a mad chase across the country and the fate of "Family Guy" lies with the first boy to reach Hollywood.

This is going to be brutal. I hate Family Guy so I'm kinda hoping they tear it a new one.

Haha, I know, I just don't have much respect at all for the show.
It takes 1 premise and tries to drag it out for years and years. It really gets old after the first season or 2.
On the other hand, that's what I like about SP, the fact that its always growing and changing and adapting to the times.

If you're referring to the question of who Eric Cartman's dad was, it wasn't that they didn't make the follow up episode, but that the way they completely killed that whole storyline was by making his mother a hermaphrodite who was really his dad and the identity of his real mother an unsolved mystery. I'm sure that they're really going through with the episode, and I'm sure that they'll find a way to portray Muhammed that will be tastefully funny without being offensive. A stick figure maybe?

Well, I had in mind more along the lines of this season's opening episode, with the "Previously on South Park," thing, which never existed to begin with.

But, anyway... as far as Muhammed goes... they've already USED him in South Park... in episode 504: Super Best Friends. (http://www.southparkstudios.com/downloads/display_image.php?ep_number=504&ep_name=Super%20Best%20Friends&img=http://images.southparkstudios.com/media/images/504/superbestfriends.gif&img_name=The%20Super%20Best%20Friends!) maybe they'll reference the super best friends, but i'm guessing that the fact that they already showed him is not really going to have much bearing on this episode. competely different contexts [throwaway background character versus central plot element.] but then again, there's a 50% chance my instincts are wrong.

i will also be extremely surprised if there is no second episode. I expect they'll do something to mess with the viewer, but the cartman's mom thing was an april fool's joke. there was a precedent for it. ignoring the cliffhanger and moving on with the season would be a strange decision for trey & matt.

I also watched the second episode. I though it was funny with the manatees. Anyway, Does anyone else know that Isaac Hayes quit the show because they made fun of his religion-SCientology. They pulled the episode, which I guess was a reference to WEdnesdays epsiode about pulling an episode and the show being cancelled. Here's what Isaac Hayes had to say (and he's totally serious)-Quote-"As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I can not support a show that disrespects beliefs and practices." end quote. Think that over for a while. And if you want to know more about the episode, go to Wikidea or whtaever encyclopedia and type in South Park. It was all about Tom Cruise "coming out of the closet."

I heard the same thing about 2 or 3 weeks ago. But, it turns out that Hayes had a stroke in the beginning of the year, so many assosiates of his doubt he made such a statement because he is in no shape to do so. Anyway, now they think the church of scientology had something to do with that statement...

Kaoru
04-15-2006, 11:36 AM
I think it's great that South Park made fun of Scientology. If you actually do the research on it (yes I did) and it's really dumb. It's basically like a cult combined with one of those "buy my overpriced book and you will be happy" scams that have really got blown out of proportion. It's all a scam, they just want your money. Even L Ron Hubbard was quoted to say "If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion." That basically sums it up (from what I know). It's just so stupid I guess.
Now to get back on topic, I won't miss Chef, because did you ever notice Chef went from a somewhat major character to a minor character? I don't see why they killed him off tho, he probibly could of just suddenly started to not appear on new episodes and nobody would notice. So it's not so much I didn't like Chef it's just he wasn't really that important as a character. (I could explain this in like super details and have to use 2 entrys but I'd rather not.)

So I can't really blame them.

It made me uneasy, because "Manbearpig" is dangerously close to the premise of a comic I have written, but not yet drawn. otherwise, good episode. redeemed themselves from last week.

ANYWAY: this week's episode was REALLY great. I watched it with my mom and we both laughed our asses off. When it finished she said to me "now you know why some people have horrible children; because they are horrible parents."
A lot of time Matt and Trey are critical of media trends/political trends/cultural trends but I thought it was interesting that they would aim at something as social an issue as this. Much needed, though.

As crazy as South Park's logic is, I find myself agreeing with its opinions 98% of the time. Especialy when discussing important matters like politcs, religion, main steam culture, ect. When you get past all the swearing an dirty jokes, South Park is not only funny, but interesting and insightful as well.

Something all South Park fans must see. In 1992 Matt Stone and Terry Parker created a series of two short animated films entitled "The Spirit of Christmas" which first premiered at the December 1992 student film screening. The Spirit of Christmas also launched the highly popular animated series South Park.

But don't you see, the way it's animated is what makes it so unique and distinguishes it from other animated series. Kind of like how the Simpson's signature trademark is it's yellow skin tone. The creators of the show just wanted to try something different and it paid off big time, if I do say so myself.

I enjoyed this show in the early going. Something about the weird reality of the place and the boys just being themselves made it downright endearing. And then it started ripping into everything and anything, and it repeated the same old jokes nonstop...and that's when I feel the slide started.

The definitive shark-jump moment, for me, was the Halloween episode where Eric got exactly what he wanted and acted like a total jerk and the other boys did NOTHING. I'm astonished, in fact, that the total jerk who's always the centerpiece and always gets away with murder isn't one of the preset categories on jumptheshark.com, as it's been poison every time it's been used. (Case in point, Baby Blues.)

I understand that this show's big publicity is long over, and there's never been any real push to cancel it, so I don't have a complaint. It's just...geez, can't these guys do anything differently? (Kenny no longer dying doesn't count; this had to happen.)

tomselleck69
09-30-2006, 04:33 AM
i disagree, i enjoy it alot more now. i have alot of trouble enjoying the older episodes---they're all poorly written and have fart jokes and profanity at the crux of all the humor. it's just become a different show than it was all those years ago. i noticed it changing around seasons 3 and 4... i don't know whether i'm in the majority or minority, but i think it's been getting better since. it still suffers when it gets holier-than-thou on an issue (as you can clearly hear matt and trey venting in the dialogue,) but altogether the humor has become alot smarter (or at least consistently much closer to what i find funny.) as for doing something different, of course the show has established it's own boundaries, but i don't think it's become mindlessly formulaic or easily predictable.

but nonetheless i understand where you're coming from, and i respect your opinions. standard fans/non-fans at odds thing.

however i dont even count baby blues as a legitimate show... just... ugh, what a bad idea.

YamPuff
09-30-2006, 05:35 AM
I've heard it on a few times because my brothers watch it, but from what I heard it was all profanity and dirty jokes as well as racial slurs. '****' being repeated over and over is....not funny. Or clever.

It does have its moments I guess but I would never watch it.

There's more to South Park then dirty jokes. Most of the episodes are well written and very funny. Though usually over exaggerate, I find much of what they say on South Park about things like politics, religion, and current events to have some truth to it.

Well look at the shows main characters. Of course their going to make dirty jokes and use foul language because they're nine years old. That's how most boys and some girls that age interacted each other in real life. In a way it kind of makes the characters more believable.
