Have any of you been to Comic-Con? I went last year, and it got me into Manga. Tokyopop was there, and let us sign up for the manga magazine that they now have. They also gave out free books with sample manga.
I'm already registered to go this year.

I've been several times... at least three and as many as five (it's too late at night for me to think of the years). :) Great fun. Hope I can go next summer, but it's looking doubtful for this one.

Well, I went last year, so if you want pictures of the crowd, I have some. LOL.
I'm looking forwards to this years. It was a lot of fun last year, even though I missed almost everything I wanted to see. I had my whole family there, and we all couldn't deside what to see.

When is the Comic Con I've never been to it and it sounds like a lot of fun! And I'd like to go! So can someone please tell me when it is? Thanks:D

It's usually in July or early August.
www.comic-con.org would have the exact date!
CountOlafty
03-16-2006, 04:36 PM
I'm already regustered to go, so I should know the date right? Well, I think I do, but I'm not sure about it.
I think it is July 14 - 19th... Never mind. Scratch that. I looked at my calander, and it says
"19th - 23rd". So thats when it is.
If you plan on going, you may want to reguster soon, because the longer you wait, the more money it costs.
Also, if you reguster soon, you can get a closer hotel room.

Yes I have been also in the Comic con I started going also in 1999 omg I remember when it was such a little room and now I cant be surprise anymore about all the people going, but also is really fun sometimes tiresome lol going 5 days for me is really tired xD. Other than that is really cool.
P.S My first Post here xD T_T

The room were you buy all the stuff is huge! You can get lost in there! If you are going to meat anyone, don't meet them there. LOL.

03-16-2006, 10:17 PM
True, that room is huge, but still feel very pleasant to see other people with same hobbies and everything *_* I came from a family where my family neglects all that had anything to do with anime T_T

Luckily there are big banners hanging from the ceiling with numbers.
So you can say meet me at the booth that's located at 3456
But they tend to be big hard to remember #'s :(
It's easier to meet at the entrace letters. Entrance C or D etc.

I've gone for three years now. Last year I wen to the Dear Freinds Final Fantasy Concert in the same trip, which was a lot of fun. One time I went I got five free T-shirts! :D
Masquerade attendance is free, if I remember from last year, but I think there is a fee to actually be part of the masquerade. Anyone getting on stage this year? I might do a skit with some friends.

Thats what I thought. My family is telling me that you have to pay to go, but I told them you only have to pay to be in it. *Sigh*
Well, I won't be in it. I'm the only one in my family who might do something in it, but I can't do it alone, so no. lol.
I wanted to go to that FF thing, but once again, I was the only one who wanted too...
I take it no one went to that Lord of the Rings musical? haha.

Comic-con is the best time of year. I live in San Diego so I go every year for all four days. My dad's a big fan of american comics so he pays my way.^_^
We spent all of Sunday last year getting security guards to sign a Takuhai (its called "manga" magazine now T_T). All but two signed it before we brought it back to the Tokyopop booth.
Make sure you pre-register if your going to go its alot cheaper if you pay early.
chocopocko
04-03-2006, 10:53 PM
Everyone will tell you to pre-register and you should if you are going it is only $25 right now and it is like $45 at the door. Also you cant go to preview night(where they show you previews of all the new releases) if you dont pre-register.Also, check out the Tokyopop booth they usually have free preview books there if you want to see whats new(some of the other manga publishers have these too, like KOCCA). You definatly dont want to miss it!

Can't believe I didn't see this thread.
Anyways yeah I went there once. I got a signed autograph from great artists, and writers. People like Jeph Loeb, Jim Lee, Pat Lee (artist/writer of the devil may cry comic book), Geoff Johns(sp?), artists from Udon, etc. It was awesome!
Sadly they didn't have enough anime / manga stuff but still it was amazing! Though if I had to choose between Anime Expo and ComicCon, then I'd definitely choose Anime Expo.

CountOlafty
07-05-2006, 04:22 PM
Well, I may try to meet up with some of them, but they will have to find me. I will probably tell them that they will most likly find me in the anime rooms, or at the copic markers stuff, because I'll be at that.
If I had to choose between Anime Expo, and Comic-Con, it would be very hard, because I like going to Comic-Con because it's not right by my house, and it's loads of fun.
But I like going to Anime Expo because it's LOADS of fun, and it has TONS of anime, and manga, as can be expected.
Lucky for me, I don't have to choose between the two yet.

I'm going to Comic-Con. Hopefully I can revive my Siegfried Soul Calibur III costume from the dead since I broke the foam armor while posing in it for an art project.
Don't know why I chose such a character to dress as... it's very hot in it and the man who made it for me explicitly said I'd be crazy to wear it in the summer time!
I sort of want to go to portfolio review, but I'm terrified and I probably don't want to show up to people looking like an idiot in cosplay >_<
CountOlafty
07-09-2006, 11:47 PM
Well, when I finish my costume, I'll take a picture of me in it, and post it... Just for the heck of it really. So you guys can jump me and say you have seen me on this forum... Not mto smart of me...
Anyways
If you can draw at all, you might as well do it. I'm trying to learn how to draw anime, but I don't have much skill.

I have a lot of fun going to Comic-con - but be prepared for the huge crowds and jostling through the dealer's room. There's certainly more anime/manga stuff now at Comic-con, in a way I think there's more than at AX. AX has a good amount of manga bargains (which CC lacked last year), but that's if you're looking for deals. There's KOCCA, who promote manhwa (korean comics), all the usual companies, and manga/manhwa artists who didn't go to AX. This year, Hino Matsuri (of Merupuri) will be there! I'm excited for that. Along with the Lone Wolf and Club mangaka, Nobuhiro Watanuki (Rurouni Kenshin) and Amano Yoshitaka (of Final Fantasy etc). So if you can afford it and are curious, I think it's worth checking out ^_^.

Well, if you ever need to see somthing to make you not feel like a loser, (or need a good laugh), just ask to see somthing I drew.
I was making myself look to good. I have NO skill. I'm trying to learn, but so far, no skill. haha. So yea, just ask. All I do is heads, and they don't look right. I'm going through some How To Draw books, so I might learn.:)

There are also gonna be book signings at the TPOP booth, so go to the booth and check the schedule.
Advice to the first time Comic Ccon attendee...
- DO NOT buy con food .. it'll be like, $13 for a crap burger and water... there's a bunch of great food across the street in the Gaslamp District.
- Use the exhibit hall map/list. It's near impossible to find the amller booths without referring to their numbers.
- Prepare yourself for a lot of people... some who haven't showered. And it gets kinda warm in that convention hall. ^^; (I think attendance last year topped 100,000?)
But it is ridiculously fun. ^____^ See you guys there.

@_@ Augh, don't remind me... My awesome-tastic Siegfried costume is going to waste for fear of over-heating... so I'm gonna wear no costume and a top hat instead... though the collapsing ability of my top hat kind of adds awesome-tasticity to it...
Though today was kind of cold...
But in the end... the Convention Center is built like a blasted greenhouse for some stupid reason...

Well, as I've said before, I'm going dressed up as Roxas from Kingdom Hearts II... Hope it's not to hot. I think I'll just wear it saterday... I'm guessing I'll be the only one with the costume. At AX, I saw no one with a Roxas costume.

Two guys kissing... Though it wasn't really too big a deal since not all the Roxases, Soras, Axels, and Rikus were all different genders.

Aha... Thought so... Well, Then You'll see me along with all the other 20,000 Roxases! LOL. I'll be the one with the worst looking costume. :) ((It is my first one, so you gotta give me a brake...))
ZeKarmiSama
07-19-2006, 10:48 AM
I can give you a break. In my Marluxia costume, some people stared for a good minute before Marluxia came to mind. @_@ It's not my fault I don't know how to use wood or paper mache to make a scythe.
Though my in-promptu top hat for Comic-Con is kind of lame. I'd dress as a Victorian gentleman if a girl in a suit didn't look so terrible... Though it adds six-inches to my ridiculously short height, so all is well.

oh, and i will see you all there (dont think i mentioned that yet) we should all wear nametags of something with our username on it. >.< that would be funny. (j/k)
CountOlafty
07-19-2006, 02:16 PM
Well, that would be cool, but I would hate to be looking left to right everyone, looking at people for nametags...
If I finish making my cosplay by tonight (deadline), then I'll take a quick picture of me in it (my hair may be done... I may not even find a way to get my hair right... I'm really last minute. LOL. It's funny.) and then you'll know what to look for. I was thinking of trying to make a quick Key Blade, but I never got to it.
Also, I think the weather in San Diego is going to be high 70s, low 80s. With the ocean breese, it should be nice.

It was a cr@ppy Travellodge 15 minutes out from downtown. It was free for me so had a hard time getting on on Saturday since probably I (with 2 laptops in my took) and every other guest taking advantage of the free service. Though a bit belated here is my blog about Saturday @ SDCC! (http://www.tokyopop.com/Ariolander/blog/688.html) and my Sunday @ SDCC! (http://www.tokyopop.com/Ariolander/blog/691.html). Next year though we are staying in Downtown... I missed the Masquerade Competition this year because we were too far out and couldn't simply walk to our hotel.
First I will start uploading my videos from Saturday to YouTube then probably get some rest (12:23 AM right now) then go about sorting through 400+ photos that were taken over the coarse of my 3 days at the con. After that I will prolly write 2-3 more blogs depending on what I find in my digital audio recorder.
All in all this was my best Comic Con yet (except for my first one which is always the best since it is a totally new experience) and I will talk all about it in my blog. Will post when (if ever) I finish ^_^

I went on Saturday and Friday. It was so hot... and heat makes BO more obvious. The dude who sat in front of me and my friends in one of the anime rooms smelled like a garbage dump!
I'm so bummed I didn't win a Vampire Knight necklace... or well... maybe I'll find one when I go to Hong Kong in December. Matsuri Hino is freakishly pale... and wearing a white dress just kind of added to it...
@_@ Is it just me or did all the manga companies give out a ridiculous amount of free manga? I have like ten manga I paid nothing for! Kept my cousin busy for a while.
CountOlafty
07-26-2006, 12:31 AM
You got a bunch of free manga?! I got the Viz/Shonen Jump sampler mangas, but did they have complete free mangas? What do you mean?
I went all 4 days. The best thing I saw the whole week was the Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain pannle. It was awsome! The people are really funny, and VERY talented.

i did go to the TP panel on Friday, it was a 2 o'clock one or something with the manga-kas. it twas really awesome :)
it was nice and warm there dont you think? i was wearing one of those fuzzy anime ear hats all day and i wasnt that hot at all.
ZeKarmiSama
07-26-2006, 05:28 PM
Yeah, though, people were randomly stopping us because I had a top hat with a cat on it and my friend had a Momiji rabbit hat... @_@ By golly... You can buy your own Momiji rabbit hat at the booth waaaaaaaayyyyy on the end of the exhibit hall... it was a bit tiring going from one end to the other end...
I think it was a little bit hot since in some places the air conditioning isn't the same as other places but it might partly be walking back and forth from end to end of the exhibit hall balancing a heavy (it has metal things in it because it is collapsible) top hat on my head...

I remember the giant TP bags from last year, no go this time around though.
Yeah, we're not doing them for the foreseeable future. Too much of a mess, I think is what I heard. There would be bags all over the floor, we were continually restocking them... I think the costs outweigh the benefits. For now.

lol yea I will take the cool contests, neat outfits, and entertainment in the booth over the bags. Though amazing for holding loot those bags got heavy by the end of the day 0.o;; Ended up brining a backpack this year to ease the load before I could drop it all off at the hotel.

Lucky for me, I only bot a few mangas here and there, so it wasn't to heavy to carry. Plus the hotel was close...
I guess I should be posting the pix of my cosplay about now (even thought none of you really wanna see them) but I'm still to lazy... If ya wanna see um, post, and I'll post the pixs. If ya don't wanna see um, I'll probably post them anyways.
