Is there a demand for an anthology like shonen jump or shojo beat?
If yes, what current series or unlisensed series would you like to see in it?

Series that don't go on forever!

If your talking about Phonebooks then it wouldn't be a singular series but an entire publication, and that involves getting the go-ahead and liscense for a number of different series as well as a translation team much larger than TPs current stock.

It wouldn't be the same size as the japanese ones but maybe roughly around 4 or 5 series in it would seem plausble.

I wouldn't like that because only one chapter of the manga is given every month so to finish a series would take a few years. :(

I'd subscribe, Id love to see Cowboy Bebop, Scry-eed(is that correct?), Hellsing. The biggest thing, I think, Is that Shonen Jump is a mostly kid friendly anthology, Id like to see one more for young adults, Stories with a greater final objective than "I'm gonna become the number one Pirate/Ninja/Duelist/Shaman in the worls, and all my friends here are gonna help me!"

Not saying that there is anything wrong with that type of story, and i quite enjoy that type of plot, But there is alot out there, and if Tokyopop was going to do an anthology, I think that they have the material base to do a much more teen/young adult oriented version.

Thats my two cents, It may be worth a little less down there in America.

hellsing is owned by Dark Horse unfortunately. Shoddy translation and shoddy binding. Blah.

*Had forgotten that Hellsing was owned by DH, Covers own bum*

I meant it as an example of the type of story(yeah that'll work) that I'd like to see.

Shonen Jump is 2 or 3 chapters of several series that Viz already owns and is translating for release as manga, and every month, or every other month they have one chapter of a new manga that will be released soon, my other suggestion is, If you're going to try and hook readers onto a new manag, put at least 3 chapters in, so we get a feel for it.

Well, I think the issue at hand is that they don't have the manpower for something like that.

however, a smaller publication like "Raijin" is an example of a smaller anthology. However, I only read Raijin for "fist of the north star" so, eh.

Hire me, I'll read all your mangas, which you'll send to me for free of course, and I'll decide which ones would be good to put in such an anthology, which wil then be ready to hit the printers for publication, Ill write all the editorials and articles myself, and hire and manage a team to deliver the whole thing.
*Dream Bubble Pops*

Im sure the demand is there, because 80% of the people I know who read Shonen Jump are interested in more adult mangas, im not saying that 80% of shonen jumps readers are the same, but a good chunk of them would be intrigued, also the people who don't read Jump simply becvause it is mostly for kids.

I believe Tokyo Pop is doing just fine without an anthology at the moment. With their free magazine that goes through the mail and their internet offerings, they don't need an anthology.

However, IF they were to do an anthology, I would think they would do one with various series. Original Japanese and American would be required, both shoujo and shounen, and one series of shounen-ai or shoujo-ai, perhaps both.

Problem with that is I am in Canada, and as such, not eligible for the free manga in the mail. Many fans of manga do not live in the continental Us, and as such do not get the free manga, and most of us are not exactly eager to fork over our 15$ to try a manga to see if we like it, because if we don't, well 15$ is 15$, thats McDonalds and a movie.

I would be more interested in an OEL magazine than all the other series. There are some talented people that RSOM has brought out. And not all of them are cut out for book deals yet.

Yes, but what was it, Sakura Pak? They did that and then they died. There just isn't a huge market for OEL manga at the moment.

I'm with Klawsie, I'd love to see short, single-chapter stories by RSOM winners and others. And with the Tokyopop name attached, it would almost definitely do better that Sakura Pak! (The same company's Rumble Pak shounen anthology is doing fine, IIRC.)

Well, I hadn't heard of Sakura Pak, ever, so it's hardly my fault it flopped. :)

I'd love to see them do an OEL anthology! Something like what RadioComix does, but on a larger and more professional level. I'd subscribe the moment they mentioned it. And watch my savings slowly dwindle into nothing...

I'd buy it

I don't think it's feasible at the moment.

I anticipate something like this in the future, though. The comics world seems to be starting a sort of renaissance... it's coming back from the dead. Once it's more established, I think it could work. But, not right now.
