I don't like Dir en Grey...with a passion. @___@;

Except for one song...and thats Yokan

and that song is completely toned down compared to all their previous visual kei stuff.

I got back into them recently actually. My MP3s had somehow vanished a few years ago... But yeah got back a few now. ^^

Right now my fave would be... Yurameki. ^^

If you have a passion for something then use a stronger word. Such as "I hate them with a passion" I hate it when people say that though. It just makes them sound idiotic.

I like all of the album six ugly.

NONO NO HATE LOVE LOVE.

Dislike is a strong enough word already. If Dir en grey saw that they would go like this:http://rokettobaibii.net/crying.gif
Can you imagine how they would feel if someone said they HATED them?! Have some consideration, friend.

I don't really think they would care. Seeing as though they are sitting on thrones of money and jewels.

My friend got kicked in the head at the NY concert by Kyo's Bucket.
I heard it was an awesome show, rumor has it they will be featured in Rolling Stones Magazine next month. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears wide open.

So yeah, I do like them. :B

Yeah, supposedly Rolling Stone Magazine was pretty wowed by them. Hopefully there's some coverage; Dir can always use more of that in the US. Sadly there were about -3 reports from Dir's SXSW set and no print reviews so far of their other two shows.

I heard that Kyo and Die were a little out of it at the LA show?
Die was stuck in a corner because his equipment was screwing up and Kyo was squeaky for the first four songs and then he finally warmed up.

Either way they can kiss Hard Gay's ass and while they are down there they might as well spread em' because they are about to get done.

I still find it amazing that Rolling Stone Magazine thinks it's so cool, when a simple highschool teen knows more about music and indie rock than them. I think even the n00biest of n00b to j-rock knows more about foreign music than rolling stone magazine does or probably will ever. Their coverage of german artists was horrible back when ramstein was popular. They actually said that Blüchmen was a german rock band.........THEY ARE A GERMAN POP BAND!!

I read some reports that say Die was happily flipping everyone off and throwing picks, I read others that said he was sullen and stayed in the corner after his equipment messed up (supposedly they fixed it right away). Didn't hear anything about how Kyo sounded either way, just that he was in a good mood. I was going to go but didn't want to go by myself and everyone was busy so yeah... I sat that one out. 20 minute drive, I suck.

Eh, you can just watch the old concerts.
Yeah they took a break and came back throwing crap out into the grounds.
Picks, drum sticks and other little things. You might be reading the happiness from a NY report and the failing equipment from an LA report. I know they kept screwing with the lighting guys at both.

I was once a die-hard fan of theirs. From Macabre up until Vulgar, I bought every little thing they released. I noticed, however, that as time went by, their music seemed to appeal to me less and less. I was greatly disappointed by Six Ugly after the wonderful that I considered Macabre to be. A few singles here and there still kept my hopes up, but when Vulgar came out, that was just the last kick in the crotch.

They had gone in a completely opposite direction from what I had fallen in love with, and so I bid them farewell, and have yet to regret that decision.

One thing that irks me incredibly, though, is that since my eyes and ears have lost their obsession induced glaze, I've noticed something disturbing. I've since learned just how "original" their music really was. I was never much of a Kuroyume fan, but after discussing Dir en grey with Kuroyume fans, I've been pointed into the direction of a frightening amount of evidence against DEG. This includes DEG copying anything from costumes (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bbfHpRwV5m4) to music (http://youtube.com/watch?v=YOxN1Ridpg0) to Kyo even copying Kiyoharu's facial expressions/body movements (http://youtube.com/watch?v=5GqUaXxlcc0). Sadly enough, this abuse wasn't limited to Kuroyume. Nope. If you try comparing the last minute of DEG's egnirys cimredopyh and the last minute of Buck-Tick's National Media Boys (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SS6p2G3aVS8), you may just notice a hilarious similarity between the two in tempo change, style, and beat.

Those are only a few examples, but...I think they're sufficient enough.

ORANGE RANGE always pissed me off; for some reason the first time I even saw a picture I didn't like them. The music I heard later on sure didn't help. They're a bunch of unoriginal pricks OH GOD I JUST HEARD KURUMI BEING COPIED. :((((((
Anyway, their 15 minutes are past. They are so not on every music show anymore.

Dir's moved away from the style I didn't like (GAUZE) to something I did like (Macabre+). So no problem there. My tastes have fluctuated a lot, so I can like whatever they put out, pretty much. 'cept CLEVER SLEAZOID. Thank god that seems to have been a one-off thing.

That Kyo is a Kiyoharu worshipper is no secret to anybody. I think only in the past year has he taken up a look that isn't just like Kiyoharu's o_o/
His vocals are gradually changing direction as well. I don't think Kiyoharu gives a ****; he's probably flattered. Kuroyume was very influential in the VK scene around 1994-1997, so the fact that Dir was an imitation of that for a while isn't very surprising. Since Dir didn't start sounding like SADS, I think it's safe to say that his obsession with the man's music was for the Kuroyume period only.

Kaidan
03-30-2006, 03:52 AM
I'm not saying that Kuroyume/Kiyoharu should care that they're being ripped off, my point is that it's kind of rude of Dir en Grey to expect people to want another copy band. They seem to never be willing to give their music an original sound. Anything after Kisou was basically american nu-metal, and I've heard some rumors of direct rippage ala that buck-tick example, but as I've never listened to them, I'll just have to trust those friend of mine that make the claim. I've also found some similarities to Fujifabric in one of the songs off of Withering to Death.

A Victim of Profiling

Some songs off of Vulgar also have similarities to songs done by The Mad Capsule Markets, too. Specific titles are on the tip of my internet tongue, but for the life of me I can't figure them out. D:

Dir en Grey is a Japanese dark metal band who have become very successful not only in Japan but throughout the world as well. They've done some stuff in Germany and recently have had their first US tour in which they hit Texas, New York and California (i attended the LA show) and their latest album, Withering to Death is scheduled for release in the US under the production of Warcon records next month. At current Diru is my favorite band and i'd love to see them here again.

"Mainstage" does not mean "support". If they were scheduled to be on a second stage I'd understand you using that term, but it says they're to be mainstage. So I would count on a full set.

I was very excited with this information! (I found out at three in the morning when it was first posted) I'm glad that DeG is taking the step forward and touring with bands they've never experienced. In all actuality, Dir En Grey is crashing into the ground worse than korn. They lost nearly their entire fan-base after clever sleazoid was released. Korn still has a fanbase. I just don't get why mucc is touring with them. Their music sounds nothing alike and I don't even know if the crowd will appreciate foreign music. :/

Uh, where the hell did you hear that they lost nearly their entire fanbase after CLEVER SLEAZOID was released? That's a load of bullshit. Certainly they're not as popular as they once were (and they haven't been hugely popular since 1999/2000, by the way), but few bands hit the big time and keep it for years.

They still have plenty of fans, they still play BUDOKAN (which bands don't do if they can't sell the tickets), and they still place high on the charts with every release. Quit talking out of your ass. No band loses "nearly their entire fanbase" after the release of one single. Try being a fan, part of the fan community or even knowing of the band for more than a year and then you can talk.

And the fans they lose as they move further and further away from their original VK sound are made up by the new ones they gain with their new sound.

"Uh" they've been loosing it ever since six ugly, darling. Everyone knows that once you get rid of traditional visual kei look and sound people are going to loose interest. I for one only really like six ugly and I sometimes like the vulgar album. It's really common knowledge, if you visited any kei or otherwise j-music forums at all around the time of the release of clever sleazoid.
Even the fans who started liking their new sound don't like CS. I didn't appreciate it and I loved it at first. I guess maybe that's because of their lyrics and kyo's horrible engrish. And yes it's horrible and there is no arguing the point. I've heard plenty of j-artist who can sing perfect english and they aren't even that popular.

lolol I guess you've never heard of GLAY, Pierrot, La'Cryma Christi, Siam Shade or Luna Sea.

And there is no "traditional" sound with VK. It's called VISUAL kei. There's no set sound; it's all about the looks. Of course I frequented many VK and J-music forums around the time CS was released, and I saw pretty much equal amounts of people saying "I love it" as people saying "I hate it".

I realize it's popular now for people to hate on Dir, but try not to be such a bandwagon jumper.

Eh, I don't have cable so I didn't see the videos (on TV that is, I've seen them before online). Unfortunately, their music style has changed so much since they've started to get bigger in the states, and I think they're trying to conform to the musical tastes of the U.S. that they're losing a lot of fans and their music is going downhill. Some people still like their music too though. But I think most of the fans are like "I'll buy their older albums and DVDs, but I'm not buying any more of their new stuff." I don't know if I like their new stuff or not yet (but from what I've been hearing, I'm leaning more towards the "not"). They have a new album coming out in February. Maybe I'll buy it. Maybe I won't. Kyo's doing too much of the screaming thing for me, and I think he's straining his voice way too much. There are some other band issues that have popped up since they started aiming for recognition in the states, but I won't go into that.

Also, it should be noted that years ago the JRock band X Japan (or maybe it was just hide? I can't remember) had a big chance to get some recognition in the states but do to one thing or another it never happened. I think hide didn't want to take the chance or something but my X Japan/hide knowledge has gottena bit rusty.

I only went for Dir en Grey, but some of the other bands were pretty cool too (but we left before KoRn since myself and the two friends I was with don't really like their newer stuff). Even though it was raining it was amazing!! I hear it was the only show where all the members of Dir en Grey came out for the signing (which wasn't actually a signing since no signing actually happened). It was awesome though, since I got to meet them all and shake their hands. They looked kind of awkward though, and Kyo looked like he really didn't want to be there, so I felt kind of bad for him. It was a pretty awesome day though. ^__^

hide was trying all right, but he died before he could get anything done. The Zilch album's US release was dumped after his death, along with of course the tour they had lined up.

I think it's cool that they're becoming more famous in the US, but i also agree with PururinEleven. They have really gotten away from their original style, and I haven't liked any of their recent singles except for Ryojoku no Ame. Still, it might just be the band trying something different...I hope the songs on their new album are better

I liked Ryojoku no Ame as well, but I absolutely can't stand Agitated Screams of Maggots. And "The Marrow of a Bone" for an album title!? It makes me twitch. It's weird though becasue their WtD album is one of my very favorite albums ever, but I disliked a lot of the songs on it. But the songs that I did like on it (like "the Final" and "Kisou") were absolutely amazing.
Obviously though, bands change and evolve over time, but in Dir en Grey's case, I think maybe they tried to change too fast and the change was perhaps a little bit forced.

i wish more j-rock bands were on tv in england! that would be awesome. the only ones that are even a little bit mainstream over here are Mad Capsule Markets and Polysics, and its very rare that i ever see them on tv. It would be awesome to see more, although at the moment there doesnt seem to be much demand for anything that isnt R n B or emo :(

That's true...it does seem a bit forced...
I just hope there are at least a couple of good songs on the new album.

Yay, finally, one Diru thread!! :D I'm curious about Dozing Green. I'm not much of a fan of their newer music and it just seems to get worse and worse IMO. They're saying this one has a whole new sound and it's very different from their recent music or something. All I know for sure is that it has electric kazoos. XD

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yikes, it's been a while since anyone has posted here. >.>
Sho rieks, DeG came out with their new album a few months ago, Uroboros, and I'd just like to say that I love it. It really reminds me of their music from around the 2001 era (Macabre). But it's also nicely blends in the sounds/vibes of their newer music.

Me likey. :]
