One of my favorite games is DDR. Lot's of fun, especially in a group. Too bad it stinks up the room real fast. :) I'm fairly competent, I get Bs and As on standard difficulty.

I used to play a lot, and still drop by the arcade when I can find the time. I can past a number of 10 foot difficulty songs, and some 11 difficulty songs while playing In the Groove... as well as stack 14 modifiers on Expert 9 songs. I've been playing for a while, needless to say. ;)

Heh, I'm the president of the DDR club at my college. :D
I like Extreme (for the aracade) best. I can pass some 10-foot songs (Sakura, Paranoia Survivor Max, Max 300, and Queen of Light on In The Groove). Unless I'm playing on a soft pad... then I can USUALLY pass a 7-foot song. ^_^ I'm used to the arcade and my Colbolt Fluxes.
I love DDR too.. it's too expensive to play in the arcade....my fave version is extreme(ps2 version) and ima standard player... but can play some heavy songs

I hold myself responsible for getting my friends hooked on DDR (whether they admit it or not XD). While we don't do it as much as we used to, it still has a fond memory in my heart.
My favorite DDR jams are So Deep (Perfect Sphere Remix), Look To The Sky, AM-3P, and pretty much anything by Naoki or DJ Taka.
Oh, and Maxx Unlimited in DDRMAX2 -- YIKES! Can you say heart attack?

I still can't get the hang of Heavy level songs, but one day I hope to be as talented as everyone here claims to be! :pYou'll get there if you just stick with it. I had the advantage of usually playing alongside someone else who was better... that always helps you improve, especially if you challenge the same songs as that person (even if you fail). There are a lot of tricks that will help you improve more quickly, though.
I highly recommend learning to "speed read"... you can do this by using faster speed modifiers than you're comfortable with, on songs you know you'll pass anyway. Also, try to learn to react to combinations of steps that repeatedly come up in harder songs (such as down, right, down, left, down, right, down left, etc.) where you have to turn your body to do them easily.
Maxx Unlimited in DDRMAX2 -- YIKES! Can you say heart attack?Yeah, seriously... talk about some crazy steps! I'm surprised that I ever beat that song on Heavy... XD

Yeah, crossovers are a big thing. It took me months to even attempt it, it's so hard. (Crossovers are like that down-right-down-left-down-righ-down-left thing Tidus was talking about. You step on the down arrow with your left foot, the right arrow with your right foot, then the down arrow with your left foot, then the left arrow with your right foot: you end up actually not facing the machine, which is really scary the first few times you do it.)
I like Candy Star/No Vocals best... but I also really like Sakura and Tsugaru. And Rhythm and Police!
Does anybody besides for me space out the arrows at 1.5 to 3 (if it's a slow song) because it makes it EASIER to read? I have bad eyesight, so when I get a bunch of eighth and sixteenth notes together, I can't read what steps I'm supposed to do in which order if they're too close together.

After all these years, it's about time... and I'm still amazed that they did it, considering that DDR's market is virtually dried up in Japan. Anyway, it's called DDR SuperNOVA. XD The only way for some people to pass Bag on Heavy mode is that, though I feel like it totally defeats any of the purpose of playing the song on the first place. I feel dirty after watching someone play Bag with a 5x speed modifier turned on. *grin*

Oh and if anyone has heard of In the Groove (2) it's pretty much the same as DDR and the songs are tougher (hardest songs go up to 13feet, I've only done a few 11's)

DDR 2 for ps2 is my favorite because they had the best variety of songs I think.
And I can go on heavy mode but you gotta be able to hear the beat of the song then you''l understand, but if you can't follow the beats, then you'll mess up and get an if.
Like on the fastest song on there called MAXX I think, I can do that on heavy but I usually get a C or B.

I play xuxa at x3 speed, it really depends on how you like it- this dude (he must not be human he plays Bloodrush and Pandemonium on expert 0_0 ) got me into playing at faster speeds so i usually boost most of my songs.
and about the difficulty... I think it's true there are lvl 15 songs but i think those are people made edits. I played this insane lvl 14 "why me" song edit it was frickin all hands. But I think the highest ITG original song is 13 (vertex^2, summer, determinator, etc.)
Right now I'm working on passing July and Vertex at expert.

Right now I'm working on passing July and Vertex at expert.Oh, I've seen scores around 90% on 13+ songs from some people... it's just not fair how good they are. ._. As for speed modifiers, I thought everyone who played In the Groove used (abused) them to read challenging songs. They work so much better in ITG 1/2 because of the increased frame rate, plus the ability to see the arrows earlier.
If you use a perspective like Hallway or even use Mini, you can see the arrows even sooner. I've seen people play Expert 11+ songs at like 4x/5x speed using that trick, and they can read way ahead... but still be more accurate than average, so it helps keep 'em alive. I'm planning to try that little modifier combination this weekend. ^^ Clever people, huh?
As I don't expect to pass a 13 difficulty song yet, I stack modifiers on hard songs. For example, I've passed Kagami (Expert Single; it's a 10) with 2.5x, Wave, Boomerang, Dizzy, Fade Out, Reverse, Beat, Hide Targets, Hide Judgment, Space, and Flat/Robot on. Add Accel, Drift, Mini, and Random and change 2.5x to 1.5x, and that's how I play Dawn (Expert Single; it's a 9).
Most people don't believe that I can do this after they try the modifier combinations themselves, even on much easier songs... so, I took pictures to prove it. ^^ Oh, and Alex... the difficulties above 13 are on In the Groove 2, and I'm not referring to custom stepfile edits.

I'm making the transition from light to standard. Some songs I play standard but the harder songs I still play on light. :P
Ack, I hate being in between difficulties like that. I get discouraged easily and have a low motivation AND am lazy lol. Bad combo, I know. I'm in between standard and heavy, and can do a lot of heavy songs on DDRMAX3, but ever since I got extreme 2 especially, can barely do any of them :( Oh well, guess I should just play more and keep at it!
And thanks to those for the tips about making the arrows faster like that...I always thought they were just used to make things more difficult o.O I'll have to try it.
And to add a question, does anyone else believe a DDR class should be added to the Physical Education Curriculums at school? I've been forced to take PE all my life and hate it..but if we did something like DDR, well, that would just be sweet hehe. What do you guys think?

Hey, I know some people must have heard of this game.
I want to know what you guys do to play at the arcade, I'm a expert at home but the arcade platform sucks for me. Any helps or tips will be great.
Thanks!:)I have a lot of suggestions, but here are some basic ones. Play certain songs that will eventually teach you advanced techniques. Kick the Can on Heavy/Maniac Single will teach you to quickly read runs of Left, Down, Up, and Right. Cowgirl Heavy Single will teach you gallops. Boom Boom Dollar (any difficulty on Single mode) will teach you turns.
If you know that you won't pass a song, play it as your last song... or play it with someone skilled who will pass it, or someone less skilled who will pass it on an easier difficulty. Always challenge yourself when you won't get your game cut short. Even if you fail a song in the middle, keep playing it for the practice if you can... assuming the game doesn't cut you off immediately.
If you play where Joint Premium is available, start both sides of the machine... then play a hard song as your first song, and leave the second player's side on Beginner or Light/Basic so you get another song no matter what. There are probably hundreds more tricks... I should write a FAQ one day from my own personal experiences.

Yeah...I can play at my MAT at home....but the problem is the metal mat kills me for some reason...:(If you're referring to the pain caused by stepping on metal instead of soft foam, it sounds like you simply need shoes with more support for your soles. I play in boots, which really isn't recommended... *grin* ...and I'm sure that it hurts my performance quite a bit. Find something comfortable for you to wear that provides adequate support, but provides a smooth flat surface for stepping.
If the problem is that you simply don't hit steps as accurately, the problem is the size of the official arcade platform in arcades. It's significantly larger than most home pads I've ever seen, which means that you simply have to step further. The only way that gets easier is if you practice on an arcade machine. I don't play DDR or In the Groove at home (there are no crowds in my apartment, so I have no motivation to), so I don't have that problem.
The only other advice I might be able to offer you is not to slam your feet down on the pads, which you can get away with on soft pads with or without your shoes on. Be lighter on your feet, stepping more near your toes instead of your heels. By the way, if you're not taking off your shoes to play on soft pads... do so. You'll destroy soft pads in no time if you play on them with your shoes on.

It's such a healthy addiction. ;) In fact, it's an addiction that our society could really use considering the fast-food culture we live in today.

this a cool game I played and i think is ;)
I really need more versions of the game.
I lucked out and a friend gave me her old Madcatz dancepad and an older and well used copy of DDRMax(I have played other versions in arcades, so I know it isn't the best version xP. But beggers can't be chosers.)
Does anyone have any suggestions for which titles to look for?
(I don't mind older versions if they are considered to be better.)
Or just a heads up on what versions one shouldn't buy?

Konamix has a nice selection on it.
I need to go out and get Extreme2 because it has a lot of songs I like to play on it, like Captain Jack, Butterfly, Daikenkai and Candy.

I love DDR! I like playing with a friend b/c it looks cool when we're dancing togetherThere's actually a "Battle" mode in DDR 4th Mix PLUS (though only on certain songs, I believe) where some of the arrows come down in the middle of the screen, then actually slide over to one or both sides of the screen. It's really cool, but I'm sure that you can only play it with two people (since I don't think it would serve any purpose if you played it alone). ^^
In the Groove 1 and 2 also have a Battle mode, where you throw progressively more challenging modifiers at the other player once you build up a bar from stepping accurately. That's the best way to play with two people. <3

I've never played it at an arcade, but I got a foam mat at home and started in last November.
I'm still pretty new to it.
Basically if I turn on "Little" mode I can do almost anything- life is SO much easier without those annoying little notes. :P
Without that I'm stuck inbetween Light/Standard Mode depending which version of the game I'm playing. o.O
For some reason Standard DDR Max2 is harder for me than DDR Extreme's Standard.
Though I just got Extreme 2 and that's looking harder than the other 2.
I wish I could put all my favorite songs together in one game.
I love songs like Tsugaru, Music, V, and Days go By.

My friend introduced me to DDR a year or so ago. XD I was so horrible at it back then, and I'm still rather mediocre today, but at least I know I've improved. When I told my mom about it, she got In the Groove for my brother and I, and I've loved it ever since.
Unfortunately, since my brother is perpetually plugged into the PS2 (and our first Ignition pad majorly sucked and had to get replaced), I couldn't play very often. I learned how to play using the controller pretty well, though, and I know the rhythms to most of the songs now. I was so proud of myself when I got a "B" on Hand of Time, Hard Level using the pad. ^^; It's my second-favorite ITG song next to Anubis.
As for skill level...I'm at the Standard/Medium-progressing-to-Hard stage. I really wanna get a DDR game for home use; my favorite song on there is Healing Vision~Angelic Mix~. :D

If you're referring to the pain caused by stepping on metal instead of soft foam, it sounds like you simply need shoes with more support for your soles. I play in boots, which really isn't recommended... *grin* ...and I'm sure that it hurts my performance quite a bit. Find something comfortable for you to wear that provides adequate support, but provides a smooth flat surface for stepping.
My feet always hurt after a round of ddr on the machines as well. I don't think I step too hard considering I'm pretty easy on my soft pads at home, and no matter what shoes I wear (sneakers similar to converse, gym shoes, even Vans/"skater shoes") my feet always hurt at the arch of the foot. Are my feet just weird or am I doing something wrong?

OH, you poop heads! You didn't have to bump a thread this old! There's no reason for people to post in a new thread when there's a perfectly good thread right here for them to post in already that isn't old. This entire message board isn't even old enough to have an "old" thread yet. Please keep posting in this thread, as I've requested to have the redundant thread locked. It's selfish to ask people to post in your "new" thread because you failed to search for a thread on the topic that you created it on first.

It's been awhile since I've played this... ("awhile"=2 weeks)
I can play most of the songs on Heavy, though. I'll be the first to admit that So Deep makes me either a) have a heart attack or b) fall off the mat on the heavy setting.

I didn't fail to search you retarded chipmunk. I simply saw a weak thread and decided to make it a little more broad. I don't see why my thread should be locked. Why post in an old thread when you can post in a perfectly superior and better thread? anyway, I don't appreciate your "holier than thou" attitude, dick.

I haven't played DDR in awhile..not that I'm any good at it though. I switch from playing on light and playing on standard. Though I don't really like the most recent one that came out, which is DDR Extreme 2 (I think that's the most recent one..). I don't think that one has all that great songs, not like the former ones. *shrugs*

Errrrr. Why did people stop posting about DDR? Anyways with hopes of bringing it back to its former glory I shall post!. Ahem. I play heavy DDR cause in my house anything less than very hard makes you a pansy lol. I play then I lay on the couch and pass out satisfied with my A,B or C if it was a shady run.

I've got DDR Max, Extreme, Extreme2 and SuperNOVA for console, as well as a SuperNOVA arcade machine at the local university union hall. I've been stuck with the same Konami standard-issue soft mat for about 2 years, so I've been stuck with Standard, though I can pass some 7-8 foot Heavy songs if the pad is having a good day.

Meh, I'm bad at sight-reading too. New songs are always difficult unless you've heard them before and can recognize the beat. I totally freak out when Paranoia -Respect- stops because the music (which I know) doesn't stop, but the steps do. >_>

Heh. I'm a complete DDR addict, I'll admit xD
Currently, I'm on 8 and 9 foot Heavy songs. I did try Sakura (10 foot) the other day, but I tried it after spending god-knows how much money playing doubles, and I was dead. That was not a good idea, I can tell you xD I was so knackered.
Anywho. I tend to play doulbes a lot more than I play singles these days. I'm only on Standard on those, but I'm getting closer to Heavy. Not much longer~ I find doubles far more fun than Singles. Well, on the SuperNOVA machine xD
Does anyone else play doubles? I started playing it after hitting a wall with my singles, and it has allowed me to improve so much; my timing is so much better, as is my sight reading. It improves your movement and balance as well, so if you previously thought that you wouldn't be able to beat that 9/10 footer without clinging to the bar, you actually can. You might need to hold it with one hand for balance, but you won't be bar hugging xD ♥ (I used to play with the bar, now I don't).

Yah that happens to me all the time. The only time I play is late at night and sometimes I dont and when I try again the game laughs at me-_-. I remembered I did not play for like a month and I felt like I was new to the gmae again.>_<
