"Guys & Dolls" - someone's high school production. It was the first time I saw it and I loved it. I've seen the film version about twice. :3 I need it on dvd. (Funnily enough, I actually enjoyed the high school play's version better. I think the girl who played Adelaide was brilliant.)
I'm not sure what the other one was. "Fiddler on the Roof" maybe? It was really late at night and I was falling asleep. I didn't even finish it. ;/
Riri_chan
03-24-2006, 09:43 PM
the first one sound interesting i wanna watch it
Klawzie
03-24-2006, 09:48 PM
It's so worth seeing! (IMHO.) The songs are cute and funny. I mean, it's a romantic comedy, with gambling! Ha ha. I used to have the lyrics to most of Adelaide's songs memorized. And I think "Bushel & a Peck" is one of the best songs in the whole thing... :3
What's your favorite *modern* musical? One that's set to take place after the 1950's or so. (ie: Rent, Down With Love, etc.)
Riri_chan
03-24-2006, 09:53 PM

Wicked is a great one too. Jeckle and Hyde is the best though and I you are not familiar with it you need to find it and at least hear the music. The Scarlet Pimpernel is amazing too. they are by the same person. Rent is good too, of course, but I wasn't crazy over the movie. Jane Eyre is really good too, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and . . .

i think i'm becoming repeditive... the phantom of the opera, its my favorite book, musical, soundtrack (love journey to the cemetary, learn to be lonely, music of the night, and of course the phantom of the opera) and movie. actually in some catagories it ties with an anime or magna.

I love the Phantom of the Opera. I saw it live in London a couple years back and fell in love with it then I couldn't believe it when they turned it into a film and they did a good job with it too!! I was so happy!
Anyway, I've also seen West Side Story, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Show Boat, South Pacific, Calamity Jane, Kiss Me Kate, The King and I, and Oklahoma (sp?) Loved most of these but wasn't too keen on South Pacific, Calamity Jane and Oklahoma (sp?) and it's been ages since I've watched Show Boat. But I love the others. The songs are just brilliant in them!

I can't stand most musicals - the only one that I could probably watch over and over is South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut! :D

man, you poor creature, how can you not like musicals (okay you don't have to answer that
Perdition City

I will answer it anyways. All the singing really pisses me off, and since singing is a fundemental part of musicals.. well, you know...

singing makes the world go round

03-28-2006, 08:33 PM
I like singing, but musicals have to be really great for me to tolerate them. Singing about every little thing is only obnoxious. That said, I love/adore/cannot ever get enough of Wicked. It's amazing. The music, lyrics, acting, everything is absolutely awe-inspiring.

I'm not thinking musical; it's more that I'm hard gay for Devo right now and it's not leaving me alone.
D: I watch Ama (No Play) and the only thing going on in my mind while I'm trying to read the classical subtitles is "crack that whip~"
If I binge on videos I'll purge the songs from my head.
Blues brothers > Thread.

my favourite musical is RENT. I've seen it four times on stage and I think the movie version is an insult to Johnathan Larson's beautiful score.
