I'd like to mention that Amazon offers free MP3 downloads of opera here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/489526/ref=j_jh_lnb_ov/002-4005591-7150448). It's a good way to get some, but not necessarily.... the kind of opera that will get you hooked on it.

I recommend the band "Amici Forever" so totally. They did the theme song for the "Band of Brothers" series.

I've been listening to it off and on (off only because I couldn't find it easily) since I heard an aria clip in a very old electronic Encarta encyclopedia. I'd guess I was in my pre-teens then.

That sucks! Your CDs, if you have them, are probably better than what's up on Amazon anyway. :)

I've not yet had a chance to watch an opera. Well, there was something on PBS for ... My brain just blanked on the title. Don something. But it bored me. Maybe I just tried watching at a bad part. :D (Or maybe it was a bad production.) Would still love to try a live performance, though!

Opera is ok, I watch it at times, it's not one of the major things that I like though, it's more on odd ocations for me :)

opera is beautiful and requires so much skill! Not all of it is awsome, but most is amazing. true opera singers make even high notes sound easy, and they don't need mics!

well said. opera is alot nicer to watch than it is to listen to on a CD in my opinion. my friends dad was in an opera one time. :) although it was in a different language, he said it was pretty easy to memorize the lines since there are alot of repeatitions.

most of it is repeated. i'm taking voice and opera class and all the other language stuff i do is the same phrase over and over again

O MAN. Verdi owns my soul. Miserere d'un'alma gia vicina from Il Trovatore is such a wonderful piece. I hate Verdi with love.

My mom actually works for the L.A. Opera currently-- in wardrobe. Through her, I've been able to experience a few, and I enjoy it. My favorite is Faust-- which kept me laughing so much. ^_^

One of my teachers used to play music from the Phantom of the Opera which I like. A while ago I watched Madam Butterfly which is sad but beautiful. I also listen to Sarah Brightman and she sings some opera sometimes mixed with techno-ish music.

I do enjoy a touch of opera in my metal (although ofcourse my idiot brother believes opera has no place in metal), or Queen or Malice Mizer who lend themselves to classical operaticness.
And ofcourse *points to my name!*

Phantom of the Opera is great, I've got or heard about 10 versions of that song.

From Nightwish to Iron Maiden (ok maybe its not A.L.Webber's POTO but its still damn good piece of music and metal by Mr Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson does a grand job on it)
The worst version (or Phantom) I have heard is a tie between Dreams of Sanity (that man whoever he is cannot sing, he croaks his way through that song in a very french sort of way) and Steve Harely which is even worse because he is a block of wood in the video and cannot sing the lines as they should be sung, he should never be allowed to be the Phantom again.
The Nightwish vocalist does a good cruel and nasty sounding Phantom with alot of power behind his voice and for a gentle Phantom is ofcourse Michael Crawford for the Phantom could be a cruel evil person with a soft side and vise vicera.

My friend Sam believes Klaha would be a great Phantom with the right voice for the role and he can swish that cape as well as anyone.

I might not know much about Opera but I always love hearing it where ever or when ever.

There's these few Opera songs that are easily noticed if you're an opera fan but I seriously don't know what they are called.

If you have seen Gankutsuou, then you'll know what I'm talking about. Sorry I couldn't go into more detail.

But like I said, Opera is beautiful and I just love it.
