well, i'v seen people use wool...but i think a heavy cotton like material would be best. but look more for texture and color then any thing else. for a pattern: look at editing a trench coat pattern

hehe if you don't mind spending $90 Hot Topic sells Vash's coat. Check hottopic.com

I'll be at ACEN as well!! ^_^ I hope you already got a hotel room, both the Hyatt and the Embassy are already packed full. I had to get one at the Crowne Plaza >_<

I'd make the coat, it's easy enough.

I'd make it out of something that's called duck cloth. It's heavy, but easy enough to sew. Otherwise, try using red felt by the yard. But just so you know, you'll be dying of over heating about two hours in, so make sure to drink plenty of water.

duck cloth? i've never heard of that, yeah i'm gonna make it, i'm too cheap for a 90 dollar coat, besides i'm dead broke from buying manga ^_^

If you go to any fabric store (even a good Wal-Mart) will carry it. Depending on the quality, it'll run about 5$ a yard. Not too bad, especially since it's usually 60 inches wide.

I'm cheap too, so don't worry about that.

It's always the first place I go in fabric stores.

but wal~mart's stuff on the cheep table can be quality stuff (not like the cheep section over at joann's) that just didn't sell at that time...i've found beautiful broquade on the cheep table (the stuff ya make a kimeno out of) for like only $5! compare to regular pricing of $10 to $12 a yard ^_^
