Kimi wa Petto and Hana Yori Dango both star Matsumoto Jun (member of the Jpop band Arashi). He's also in Gokusen (season 1). Another one is the live action for GTO, which has a young Oguri Shun (from Hana Yori Dango and Densha Otoko). Both Gokusen and GTO are manga-based shows.

I've seen the live action movie of Honey Clover, GTO, and Nana and Battle Royale though that's based off the book and is being turned into manga. But that's as far as I can remember x.x

Kimi Wa Petto! I absolutely loved it! Everytime I see the "tv show" comment on the back of the manga, it gives me a little small hope that some company will someday release DVDs of the show stateside. Seriously, TP, if you want to jump into the j-drama world, that's your best bet.

I didn't really enjoy Meteor Garden, for some reason. I'm dying to see the j-drama of Boys Over Flowers, though. Frankly, I'll watch anything with Jun Matstumoto!

Well, if you know anything about Death Note, there is a movie coming out for it in the summer and another in the fall.

Hana Yori Dango Drama was just great. It was too short though in my opinion and I wished they at least had the kiss scene between Rui and Tsukushi. T_T But Matsumoto Jun in the show makes it more the worthwhile to watch...<3

I can't wait until the Death Note movies come out. Have you seen the trailers for it?

I got my two best friend completely addicted to Kimi wa Petto. We've been watching it on Youtube.com and I've been searching for somewhere to buy the drama but haven't found anywhere yet. *sigh* I saw it on ebay.ca once but missed it. Well, I'll just have to keep searching I guess. ^_^

I haven't seen any Japanese manga-based dramas, but I am currently absolutly addicted to GOONG right now. GOONG is based off of the manhwa of the same name by PARK So Hee and is sooooooo addicting!

GOONG has a drama?!?! O_O Now I must see it! I'm so obsessed with the manwha at the moment.

Yes, the website is designed SOOO nicely. XD I spent a long time just exploring on it. I think the trailer made it seem like a horror movie but eh, it works. I find it really hilarious though when they were doing a slow shot on the apple, and then they did it with a bitten apple. XD

I've seen all of Gokusen seasons 1 and 2, most of Hana Yori Dango, and one Kindaichi movie. That being said... I like Matsumoto Jun and Kamenashi Kazuya. Does anyone know anything else they've been in?

Does anyone know anything else they've been in?Kame was in Nobuta wo Produce with YamaPi. It's not manga-based, but it's good. I think there was another series he was in but I can't remember it off the top of my head and don't have the time to look it up. Maybe someone else knows...

Jun was in Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo 3, Bokura no Yuuki ~Miman City~(which doesn't have any subtitles anywhere, as far as I know), Kimi wa Petto(based on Tramps Like Us) and made a cameo in Yoiko no Mikata(which stared fellow Arashi member Sakurai Shou). Movie-wise, he did Tokyo Tower and he's filming the life-action remake of the anime/manga Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru. He's also in his music group's show G no Arashi and I think they did some movies too. I'm not quite sure.

You definitely need to watch Nobuta wo Produce and Kimi wa Petto. Two excellent shows.

They are currently showing episode 20, however there is no subs as of yet. I have no idea that youtube has subs there, thanks for informing us. ;) I shall go and watch it there.

Opps, forgot to add my 5 cents. I prefer manga based Korean drama over Taiwanese. Since I haven't seen any Japanese drama, I won't even go there. Anyways, some manga based korean must see dramas are: Full House, Goong, and...I can't think of any at the moment, but those should keep you guys busy and addicted!

I typically don't like Taiwanese adaptations of manga. Korean and Japanese adapatations usually turn out good, in my opinon.

Have you watched Nobuta wa Produce then? I've only seen the first episode but that thing has made me a Kamenashi fan.. I downloaded all the Shuuji to Akira stuff I could find and put it on my iPod I'm working on Gokusen 2 - I love SARS.

Man if some of these companies released some of this stuff over here with just subtitles I would so spend my paycheck on em lol.

Hana Yori Dango, Gokusen, Kimi wa Petto, Densha Otoko all of these shows are great and have made me a major JDorama fan.

I've heard the last episode is interesting... kinda like YamaPi and Kame fangirl service... which I cannot wait to see... Maybe I should just download the soft subs and the raws .... I may... have...to....

I pretty much always download raws and softsubs now. I used to hate them, but now I love them. I guess part of the reason is I burn so much stuff for people who don't need subtitles, so having them as optional is rather useful.

Plus, it's a hell of a lot quicker than waiting for a group to put out hardsubs.

It is isn't it? I had to finish Dragon Zakura with soft subs since Pretty Boy put the project on hold... But I can't find Ganbatte Ikimasshoi raws :( makes me saaaaaaaaad

Ahh - to find the Nobuta wa Produce raws you can head to D-Addicts or Henshin-Tigers (I will pm you the links :) )

Right now I am downloading the Kindaichi 3 series with Matsuun and the Kindaichi movie with Kamenashi - after I burn those off the computer along with Dragon Zakura I think I will finish Nobuta...

I wish I didn't need the soft subs.. but my japanese is so bad I only catch words here and there.. and then all that does is give me a broad general idea of what is going on

Are soft subs just the .srt file? where would I download those? I've always had to wait for a group to release a show/movie with the subs worked into the file. ooooh and where did you find the Kindaichi 3 downloads?? I recently started watching it on youtube..... but I want to find the downloads if I can... mmm MatsuJun......

I seem to be asking so many questions but just one more.... any one know where I can find a subbed version of Yoiko no Mikata? I've only ever been able to find the first episiode of it.

I thought Gokusen 2 and HYD were pretty bad.
G2 because:
A) too much KAT-TUN people(anything with either of the two K-T leads pretty much invalidates itself by having them in it)
B) almost exactly like the first series. It gets old fast.

I didn't like HYD because
A) it stars Matsumoto Jun's overbite, which ain't pretty (he seems to have had it fixed since then, so he's a LOT better looking now)
B) co-stars Oguri Shun's deformed mouth
C) it totally didn't get the feeling of the manga. It was cut too short, was missing characters and had retarded acting.

Oh yeah and D) it features the worst song ever created, "Wish".

A couple more manga-based dramas: Glass Mask and YAOH. I didn't watch Glass Mask myself, but my sister did and she seemed to like it. They rape "Calling" by B'z in it, though. Every two seconds: "KONO KOE GA KIKOERU KAIII". Beautiful song. :D

YAOH just finished airing about a month and a half ago, and there are subs through episode five for it. It's pretty good. Cheesy, but good. I started watching it because Matsuoka Masahiro (who I'm a daifan of :D) plays the lead character. It also has Kitamura Kazuki in it looking freakishly not-good looking, when he's normally a very hot guy.

Can't think of many manga-based dramas than are already listed here... for some incredibly great non-manga-based ones, try Kisarazu Cat's Eye, Ikebukuro West Gate Park or Tiger & Dragon. I have both series uploaded right now here (http://drama.rokettobaibii.net). Kudo Kankuro (script writer of all three) is some kind of drama god. Everything he puts out is unspeakably awesome.

And I wouldn't make my worst enemy watch Densha Otoko or Nobuta wo Produce. *shudder*
