So I was looking around on this forum and noticed the word Cos Play. I don't really know what it means and it is very bothersum. Can someone please tell me?

^_^ Not a stupid question. If you didn't ask, how else would you learn?

Cosplay = Costume Play.

It's when you dress up like a character from an anime, manga, live-action show, JPop artist, or video game. In Japan it's really big. ^_^ But then, in my opinion it's getting really big here too. Hope that helps!

EDIT: Oh!!! and it's also REALLY fun! :D

A plague. Cosplayers are rude, smelly and obnoxious. They tend to display a distinct lack of common sense when in costume by not removing their headgear and wings when entering the viewing rooms, by paying too little attention to their surroundings, and by being simply rude in stopping traffic in the hallways in order to be photographed.

They should be treated in the states as they are in Japan. Cosplay should be limitted to out-of-doors or very limitted portions of the public regions of conventions.

Just my 2 cents.

Seriously tho...why DON'T people take off headgear and wings when entering viewing rooms?
I try never to even wear costumes that have parts that stick out so I never have to even worry about such things. But it only makes people mad who bump into you, and you mad if someone bumps into your costume. *that you probably spent a lot of time and/or money on*
And um...more people should watch for what they are doing with their props and around who.
You should also make sure you know that Kyaa likes to cosplay...he's that guy with the chainsaw.

Haha. Reminds me when someone once almost poked my eye out with their "wings" when they turned around too quickly.

Cosplayers also like to take public transport, therefore attracting unwanted attention from the puplic (E.g. On the train...)

I've never been hit with any props before with cosplay, but somehow people always manage to whip their hair in my face when they turn quickly.

its hard to understand what it's like to cosplay with wings, unless you've done it before...you forget you're wearing them, then try to walk thro a door, then realize that you were wearing them cuz ya hit the door and got nocked down...XP

but yeah, if cosplayers are rude ta ya, rememebr this: it's a sign of their own personality, not the character their cosplaying as or cosplayers in general

and also, anime fans are a society now...not every one in the anime soceity is nice (any society, not every one is nice). neither are all otaku. the first time i cosplayed, a girl told meh my out fit looked ugly XP, but i still cosplay! ya just gotta blow if off, and realize, you're better then them...but don't bother insulting them back. just walk away with a confindate smirk on your face, with a pittying look, glare at them! *begins to vent* I don't know if you had a bad experience with a few cosplayers, but not ALL cosplayers are rude. Everyone is different, if someone's rude outside of costume then they're rude in costume. Please don't say that all cosplayers are rude. I love to cosplay, I am definitely not smelly nor rude. The people on a cosplay site I go to are not rude at all. Perhaps you should get to know people before calling them rude.

Kyaa is a boy... But yea, I cosplay and I was the first person to respond to his post, and I didn't take offense to any of those things he said. ^^ Of course all cosplayers aren't smelly and rude. I'm sure you smell very nice :D Cosplayers are just like everyone else, you have good, rude, bad, nice, and super sweet, among others. But if you use common sense and basic manners *excuse me, sorry, omg i didn't mean to hit you are you ok?????* I'm sure you'll be ok in the masses. I apologize for the chainsaw remark, it was a joke carried over from another thread. ^^

I found a good word to describe myself: Berdache. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berdache)

I'm happy how I am, but I wouldn't fight off an alien intervention.

(And being mistaken for a girl makes me happy.)

I don't like cosplayers much. But my main problems with them can be taken care of if they use common sense, so... for the most part they are ok. A few bad apples tho....

I love cosplay! I haven't done any yet because my parents won't let me make costumes, too pointless or something like that. I love looking at cosplays because some make me laugh and some just let me gape in shock.

Miako

Well maybe on halloween you can cosplay and they won't have such a big problem with it? Then you can just use those halloween costumes for any conventions. ^^

well, you, your self may have a problem w/ cospayers, but many otaku can be down right rude/mean too! and, just one thing, if ya don't like cosplay, then why are you on a forum that talks about it?...i'm just sayin' what i thought...but if a cosplayer is mean to ya, then that's them as a person....don't brand cosplayers as something like that. and actually, if ya get to know the cosplay community better, you'll find out that they can be quite nice and helpfull ^_^

Cosplayers are like any group. You get your good and bad ones. There's the friendly cosplayer who's just happy people like their costume, and then there's the snotty cosplayer who got their picture taken one too many times and now think they're better than everyone else.

I cosplay but I don't bother with huge props. I usually pick simple stuff to do. I plan on cosplaying as Aya for my club's "mini-con" and I might carry around a big, fake gun (Yes, I've chosen the Love Is Dead outfit). It will be the first time I actually have a prop that can poke someone's eye out. If I hit people, I'll apologize. It's only the right thing to do.

I don't mind cosplayers. Like yuidiot said, some are good some are bad.
I wouldn't mind cosplaying myself, actually, but I'm too lazy to go and try to put together an outfit. Plus, I'd feel weird cosplaying as a boy when I'm a girl, and there aren't any girls I would want to cosplay as.

There's nothing to feel weird about. I've cosplayed as a guy before. But then again, it was Haku from Naruto. He's somewhere in between feminine and masculine...

Haku is hot... ^^ And Naruto thought he was a girl sooo, good job, Jacku! ^^

Haku was easy to cosplay as since we both have similiar hair styles and his outfit is pretty simple. Also my username "Jacku" comes from "Haku." :)

I dont think that there are many conventions in that area so it would be hard to cosplay. Usually the cons are on either the east or west coasts in big cities like San Diego or New York so you might have to go there. (isnt there a thread like this about wanting conventions in the south?)I dont know everything though, there may be one in Minnesota.

Sometimes cosplayers just look weird--the sailor moon outfits? Ugh. You need legs for those things. Long long longie legs. It helps if you're leggie XD

I love it Dramacon when Kristie notices a guy cosplaying in a sailor outfit--that was hilarious *he could've at least shaved his legs* :D

I wanna try too but I still dunno how to sew ^_^ And as a newcomer, when I cosplay, I'ma end up being one of those butts that'll have her wings and headgear in the viewing room cause I dunno the difference.

I am an avid cosplayer, and love making and wearing the outfits. Is fun at cons as me and friends have scared some big buff burly guys out of a donut shop when the saw us in multiple outfits, I had ears, tail and fangs on at the time with a stobe necklace on at the time. We all laughed after they left ^.^
Is great to get in character and just hang out, is funny as we aren't always characters from the same series

Fun ^_^ Me and my friends wanna go to Onii-con and if we do, we'll end up being 3 characters from 3 different animes: Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, and Alice 19th. Haha.
