I'm nor sure if I should create a new topic...
I have a question: In some unseen future I'd like to try to submit work to TOKYOPOP and the guidelines say it should be on print 8.5'' X 11''. I live in Europe, and deflaut size for printers are A formats - and here would fit A4 wich has 0,5 cm less in the width and 2 cm more in height... If I keep the proportions (take in mind that the page will be not as long) will that kind of submission be valid?

To answer your question: A4 is fine. The white margins will just be a bit different when the paper size is different. Just make sure that the image's proportions are right. Our book size is 5"x7.4375" (7/16). With 1/4" bleed on top, bottom, and outside edge (no bleed on inside), the total image size is 5.5"x7.9375". That will fit fine on A4 paper. If you draw at 2x size, the page size including bleed is thus 11"x15.875"--that will fit on A3 paper. You can scan it in at 50% and then print on A4 paper. (Of course, you need a big scanner for that.)
(And we actually use a little less than 1/4" bleed. But pretend we do and you'll be safe.) (For anyone who doesn't know what "bleed" means, that's the part of the art that you draw outside the page edge just in case the page slips a little at the printing press; if everything prints perfectly, you will not see anything in the bleed actually show up in the book, because it gets cut off by the...book cutting machine. But it MIGHT and probably will slip a leetle bit, so you make sure there's art there to show up safely instead of having just an ugly white sliver at the edge of your page.)

That actually made me giggle. *^-^* The "trimmer," right? ^_~ That's why it's called the "trim line." XD

So If I submit 5.5"x7.9375" print on A4 paper it will be OK?
I have another question. In submission guide for toning it is written that tones should be made on 600dpi image. But here on Forum one of the artists have written that now TOKYOPOP uses 1200 dpi resoution for toning. Wich one is prefered? (I suppose higher of course ;)
And thank you for the answer :)

Yes, it will be fine.
And yeah...use 1200 dpi for toning.
