The bass guitars thread inspired me. What kind of guitar do you have? Do you play regularly? Are you in a band? What's your favorite style to play?

Personally, I'm a blues fan. I can sit for an hour just making up new riffs. In contrast, though, I've become big with metal playing. I play once a day, and I own a Univox (Sunburst finish), and several semi-acoustics. What do you have?

Feel free to discuss tech stuff, including amps and what not.

P.S. I'm thinking of getting a Schecter soon. What's your opinion?

I play accoustic on occasion, mainly folk music. When I can be convinced. Sometimes compose on it, too.

I've got a cheapie classical acoustic (was my guitar of choice in college), a decent acoustic-electric which I mostly play now and a Danelectro electric that has needed new strings forever. I play occasionally but for long periods when I pick one up.

I have my old acoustic guitar and never let it go. Same here started playing blue to get to play metal, but then when I learn the chords I create my own melodies. I even name my guitar because it has a lot of happy and bad memories with it, and every time I look a my guitar I laugh from things I remembered. Oh I forgot to tell you her name is Ariel. LOL

I've got a Jackson KE-3, Epiphone Les Paul Special II that I painted and modded, Dearmond something that I also painted, Ibanez Artcore Talman for electrics. Then for the acoustics I have an Ovation MOB, Ibanez Lonestar and an old Yamaha Classical that was my moms' when she was in college. Though not the bass guitar thread I have an Ibanez SRX400 bass.

Use to play a ton and with bands and stuff but those got less and less when I was done school and working and it became harder and harder to get together to jam.

I know this thread has aged a bit, but I bought a Dean Black Vendetta '07 recently. It's really nice, and had beautiful inlays.

~a breath of life~
I've got a Gibson Les Paul Studio. It was on sale PLUS I got a deal with the salesman which lowered the price some more ^^

Even though it's a completely rad guitar, I've let it collect dust >: I am ashamed, yes...

Your typical acoustic guitar x) I play almost everything, as long as it's plucking and no strumming!! >_>;;

I've been a fan of using slides for a while now. I really would like a pedal guitar.

Oh, and here's my acoustic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL-PYBEmIYU

All I have is a Mitchell acoustic guitar for cheaps. I had my class around end of January but it was only about 90 days long so I don't play that well :|

That looks horribly uncomfortable to play...

Then again, I'm used to playing guitar from a seated position, so.

I wanted a Schecter Flying V once. I should get one, too, as it's cheaper than a normal electric. Sounds like crap. My Dean has a nice edgy feel that can bring up a good blues rhythm.

My guitar is retarded in that the 1st string sounds terrible when putting on the capo. I'm too lazy to retune...

Sort of like the MacBook Air from Apple. It's so thin enough to deal slashing damage.

Do any of you actually play good? Just wondering since I’ve wanted to get a guitar for years. And was curious how long it took you all to sound decent.

I've tried playing on my mom's acoustic and she taught me a few notes some years back. But my fingers are so short it was hard trying to stretch them to reach some of the cords. I looked for a smaller guitar size that seemed nice but I wasn't ready to pay for one at the time. It's been years latter and I wish I would have bought one then and taken lessons too. Now I have to wait because of money and time for lessons is a bit of an issue.

Depends on what you mean by decent. For three years, I learned how to play acoustic and rock guitar. Then I spent two years playing blues. Now I just play for fun.

I may be good at blues, but not other fields. All depends on what you like more and how dedicated you are.

Like can you carry a tune or does it all come out like nails on a chalk bored.

Three years sounds like a good amount of time to be able to play stuff that sounds like music.

FujikageDaiki
09-19-2008, 06:11 PM
Yes, I can carry a tune. It didn't take too long, either. I know some who play songs within 6 months.

Aratos

And if you do really simple stuff like blues or folk, you can be playing within a month. Just three chords!

My problem is always that the frets are too clsoe together and my chunky hands don't like it. D:

Ahem. Blues is more than three chords. If you want to play rhythm blues, it's only three chords. If you do solo blues, you have to know what notes go together, which "blues boxes" sound best with a progression, and keep it nice and fluid.

Most interesting, didn't know folk used so few cords. I don't think I'd be able to play anything in a few minutes of months for that matter. I tend to take longer than most when learning.
Just wish I had the cash to buy a guitar right now. But thanks for your help. :)

Aratos

Heh. Yer basic 12-bar chord progression uses I-III-V. It's pretty much the standard that you get checked on automatically at auditions cos every one knows it.
