The first time I tried sushi I didn't like it but the more I ate it the more I liked it. Not all sushi is created equal though. The first time, I think it had too much wasabi for my taste. Sometimes it's hard to find good sushi in the states. Either way every one should try it at least once! :D

I've never tried sushi. -.- I never go to restaurants or anything, and all the grocery stores around here don't sell it. If anyone in my family would try to prepare it on their own... well, let's just say we wouldn't have a kitchen anymore. :p I've been a little wary of trying it in the past, but I'm starting to really want to try it... and just my luck, I can't get any. XD

I detest fish (not counting tuna or salmon) but will try any sushi at least once. ;3 It is yum! And extremely expensive in my area, sadly.

If anyone in my family would try to prepare it on their own... well, let's just say we wouldn't have a kitchen anymore. :p

Oh, it's not that difficult. My brother bought a kit to make sushi before and it was almost as good as what I can get at the only place in my area that makes it traditionally. Just use some faux-crab meat or shrimp in place of raw fish. :)

We eat sushi a lot and we make it sometimes too. There are a lot of sushi places locally, so we go there pretty often. I don't personally eat fish (though my hubby loves it) so I just get avacado rolls and I love them. ^_^ One of the places we go to here has Japanese food as well as sushi, so I got to try all kinds of Japanese dishes there like Udon, Sukiyaki, Yakisoba, ect. It's a lot of fun!

I'm not fond of seafood either, and I like sushi. ;3 It's worth trying at least once - but best to go with a friend who likes sushi and can say, "eat that - it's good!"

the dragon and california roll sare absolute genious, however I find it a bit troublesome to have to pay so much for it at the grocery store. Sadly enough I've found restaurants that sell it cheaper than those gouging s.o.b's.

for some reason I can't stand tuna or salmon sushi... *shrugs*

I personally find it difficult to understand how people can not like sushi - but then again I've been eating it since I was a toddler. And making maki zushi's pretty easy, you just need the right nori, and know how to prepare the sushi rice correctly. As for sashimi, I detest any type of fish cooked or otherwise, unless it's sashimi. I don't have it often, only when my mum has some salmon left over or whatever.
I don't understand why people instantly think sushi has to have fish in it though - you can make it with egg, plum, vegetables, sausages, anything you want.
I think everyone should try okonomiyaki though - lots of japanese restaurants don't do it because it's more of a snack, but if anyone's going to Japan, go to an okonomiyaki place and try some. It's the best. EVER. Case closed.

I agree totally. The people who don't try it always say the same thing. "It's raw fish! That's so nasty!" They have no idea what they're missing. It's the best food on the planet haha. I eat so much whenever I go to a sushi place. It's crazy. People stare at me sometimes too, since I'm a pretty petite girl lol. It's funny.

Tried it, didn't like it. Tried it again and still didn't like it. I can't swallow the seaweed it gets stuck in my throat and makes me gag >_<. I would eat it if it didn't have the seaweed...

I have to drive for an hour and a half to get to my favorite sushi bar/ Japanese restaurant plus there's a Japanese store just around the corner with almost anything you can think of from Japan and some stuff from Korea packed into one tiny shop! lol It's worth it though!

I was at this formal party my university was hosting, and they had sushi as hors d'oeuvres, but I was the only person at my table who liked sushi, so the guy with the sushi plate only came by twice.
I was so sad. :(

I should have, but the woman with the spring rolls and shish kabob kept coming back to our table, and well, bye the time I had my fill of spring rolls and shish kabob, it was already time for the main course, and the dude with the sushi was long gone.

I don't usually like raw fish, but sushi, after awhile tastes good. My current favourites: sushi pizza, volcano, niko niko. :D There's a sushi bar downtown called Niko Niko and they have crazy names for different kinds of sushi. First time seeing these types so it was a major hype and stuff.

Just get sushi with soy paper instead of seaweed. I don't like seaweed either, but the soy paper is awesome. You have to go to a sushi bar where the sushi chef doesn't mind it when you are specific about how you want it.

But not to be confused with the kind of swell that surfers ride on... Come on get the point already! I want to try alot of Japanese food but most of it contains fish and it makes me sad...

I LOVE Sushi! I'm really good at making it now too. ^_^ Lots of people in my family will only eat crab and shrimp *boiled* sushi, I think this is a good choice for a lot of people for a first try. Err, and I'd probably stay away from wasabi if I was a first timer too. ^_^ But wasabi is awesome on sushi!

You know I would love to enjoy sushi..but I don't. I've tried it a few times and I just don't like it. And I had this tofu soup..oh god it was horrendous. I really love the Japanese culture tho and ADORE ramen and whatnot but I just can't do sushi. I'll keep trying cause I'm stubborn tho. =D

If your just starting off with sushi try Spicy Tuna. If you get it in a roll it almost doesn't taste raw because of the sauces they use. Also, Unagi (fresh water eel) is good because it's actually cooked. Tamago is great for those not accustom to the taste. When you start venturing out into real sushi you have to get Albacore or Ahi Tuna. Those of you who are more adventurous and don't mind the fish taste find a place that has a good Spanish mackerel. Yum... itadakimas! :D

Some restaurants have a sushi conveyor belt.

It's a conveyor belt *obviously* that moves with lots of different types of sushi dishes on it. You sit down and as the sushi dishes pass by on the conveyor belt you grab the dish of whatever you see that is yummy. *you better grab it when you see it before someone else does if you don't see lots of that dish on the belt it might not come back around!* ^_^ Then you eat it!

I like the ones with the sashimi(raw fish) in them, since when I was little, my grandma always made me eat some fish at meals, because it was good for me. Only thing about sushi is that I dislike the sushi rice(rice with some vinegar and sugar) in it, so I always end up picking through everything when I get some...
I can make good spam sushi though ^.^ It's really unhealthy(fat and carbs!!) but it tastes good...

The whole conveyor belt thing can get overly addictive though. I always have to watch what I take while I watch the things go around. Those plates REALLY do add up in price after a while.

I think it's fine if people have tasted sushi but didn't like it. However, if they've never tasted it and said it sucked then they have nothing to back up their dislike with. I think that's just ridiculous. And right now I'm thinking about this girl I used to know and don't like. She hates sushi but she's never tried it. Something tells me she's going to remain "ignorant" (regarding things besides sushi). *cough*baka*cough*

I've alonly ever had sushi the once, and it was a nasty store-bought thing. Sadly the nearest sushi restaurant I know of is on the other side of the forth and charges an arm and a leg, which on my budget's no use. On the other hand, I've sorta mad a vow to try fugu at least once (probably a few hours before I die of asphyxiation, knoeing my luck) so I'll no doubt start visiting such palces more when I have cash.

I remember everyone always told me that sushi was disgusting so I never wanted to trry it (I was 8) then I was in the shops with my Mum and the lady was handing out free samples of sushi and I asked my Mum what it was and she said just try it, so I tried it and loved it and my Mum said that was sushi then I was like "yuck!". But I'm over that now and can admitt that I like it.

Pocky is good i say that if where you buy it is faraway to buy many packs or else you go through pocky deprivation which is very, very bad it will make you feel complete enough that you wont need sushi
i have never had sushi before but i refuse to eat any fish, shrimp, or any seafood at all i will just eat pocky until i die

I hate seafood, so I only eat cucumber rolls. But it drives me nuts with how much it costs in the states. When I lived in Japan it was like 65-130 yen (like 60 cents - $1.00) per roll. In my area there are tons of sushi shops and the average price is $3.00. :eek2: I told my J-friends about the price of a cumcumber roll and they thought it was nuts too!

Sushis like salmon rolls are kind of gross.
Wasabi rolls and fried shrimp ones are <3
