I just want to see how if there are an equal number of fans, or if one fanbase is bigger than the other.

You'll never know for sure, since yuri fans, though obviously creepy, are very secretive and quiet by nature, so they won't vote.

I'm a Yaoi fan all the way.
It's not that I don't like Yuri though, I just like Yaoi much better.

Since when?? but then I like both.. and for me it's really simple I love Yaoi .. Then one day I was thinking how I let Fan Service bend me out of shape.. But, I like Yaoi oh wait then everyone should find their happiness. Ha, but that has nothing to do with why I like both so Down with Fan Service!!

isn't that pretty much a disguised demographic survey?
(being general)
yaoi fans are for gay guys or girls
yuri are for gay girls or guys

How many guys do you think have their yaoi collection on their bookshelves? In their colsets, under their beds, I've heard a lot, but on the shelf? Not so often. ;)

Have you?

Crab13

Have you? I have seen some Shoujo-ai titles. To name some like Candy Boy, El Cazado de La Bruja, Kasimasi: Girl meets Girl, Kannazuki no Miko, Maria-sama ga Miteru, and Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito come to mind. As to henti or Yuri titles I have not seen any worth the time to talk about as of yet.:)

And if you're looking for a real plot, you'll be a long time in waiting. =/

Aratos
12-20-2007, 04:48 AM
Yes, well, I assumed that from my use of the word "smut" that it would be obvious I was referring to yuri.

Tajtan
12-20-2007, 05:17 AM
Cuz yaoi has no "smut?" I prefer the yaoi story ones, but I've bought some that I was unimpressed with.

Aratos

I meant as opposed to shoujoai, Taj.

i dont enjoy yaoi but i appreciate its existence. does that count?

WhistleBlower

I'm pretty sure that Yaoi is mainly written by and for women so there is plot alot of the time (as far as I know). It's alot like Shojo (In alot of cases but not all) but with more of the good stuff and two men.
Because it's already sort of a risque genre, alot of pure smut is out there but I like to tell myself that it contributes to the greater good. ._.

YamPuff
12-22-2007, 04:20 AM
:3 I think you all already know.

But on the subject, I really like shoujo-ai, but I have a harder time finding good shoujo-ai than shonen-ai. There are a lot of big, popular shonen-ai titles, a wide variety of genres (fantasy, adventure, drama), some are really smutty, some just have a kiss or two, etc. When it comes to shoujo-ai you'll be really hard pressed to find something in between total innocence and complete hentai. And I'm not just referring to what's been licensed. Shonen-ai just seems to be more popular and as a result there's more of it out there, more to choose from.

@WhistleBlower: Yaoi with plot? lol. :biglaugh:

Altho it helps to know where to look (http://www.yuricon.org/).

You know, that sounds borderline sexist to me.

You know, that sounds borderline sexist to me.Toast, I've seen what whistleblower wrote numerous times in magazines and manga regarding yaoi.

Aratos
12-22-2007, 05:55 AM
And that makes it any less sexist in its connotations?

YamPuff
12-22-2007, 06:42 AM
I don't see why its sexist; things that are geared towards men differ from things geared towards women. Although I wouldn't have used plot as example, instead, when its written by women for women, yaoi or yuri, it usually has a larger focus on love.

Ding ding ding! Give her a coconut! "The plot has a different focus" is a fair argument.

I'm a yaoi fan myself, but I find it hard to find yaoi. All I ever find are shonen-ai such as Gravitation, Loveless and Eerie Queerie. I'm a big yaoi fan, please don't call me a perv for it, but I can never find any. Though on Amazon I did find one called Othello that I wanted to read.

I can't say I don't know any guys that have it out where I can see it.. In fact I don't know any guys that even have anime .. But then I'm not social so..

Oh thanks. I got that Othello manga for Christmas. It was good but way too short. Not enough yaoi or story. Actually, my grandma got me a bunch of shonen-ai and yaoi for christmas and never realized what it was.

Yuri. They are always hotter. Although Yaoi has a bigger fanbase, and I am exposed to it daily by my brother, (who reads it to annoy me.) I do not firmly stand by one, but yuri would win if I had to choose.

So far Yuri/Shoujo-Ai won. I am a fan of neither but I read both. but I do find that Yuri is harder to find in the web or maybe it's just the circles that I am in don't supply it?

...wut. Then why read it if you're not a fan?

As for me, I'm a fan of neither and I don't read either. However, I don't MIND it either. If a reader reads either, I couldn't care less except wonder.
