Yes, yes, tell us all about the lovely expensive things you broke so we can throw lemons at you. :Robo:

--

The other day I forgot my iPod Shuffle in my jeans pocket and it got thrown in the washing machine. It half survived. The batteries're dead so its useless as an mp3 but the thing itself still works so you can still plug it in some speakers and listen to it. Luckily my mom swapped mine for hers:

Someone flushed my mobile phone down a toilet once. It was never the same again and a few months later it just stopped working.

I'd only had it a day, too.

If ya don't wanna read the article, its a kind of fantasy with shonen-ai silliness. Main character gets to a fantasy world bey being flushed down a toilet.

Oh and let's get back on topic. D:

i remeber washing my brothers pickachu step counter toy thingy. then dropping it into our pond in the back yard, and into a pool later that week. when i gave it back to hi i think he dropped it in the toilet...i think it still works though, and its been a few years.

lets see, i've have 3 cell phones kicked down the stairs repeditivly until they were so badly beat up they couldnt get put back together. and cd players just have a way of breaking on touch with me.

As a kid I used to love to take things apart so several gadgets were broken. Remote control cars, remotes, watches.

The newest thing I broke however, due to being clumsy was a side kick phone. It was in my purse and then I er closed my car door on my purse <.<

My ruined story is kinda lame. This year at AX, I totally ruined my cell phone, ipod and almost my camera.

After I finished my lunch, I decide to walk around the dealer's room before I back to work. I put a half bottle of orange juice in my bag...Almost the whole thing leak out in my bag and soak all the things inside. My bag is water proof, so I didn't notice it till 45 mins later. The cell phone is dipping out juice even 3 days later...:biglaugh:

And it was the first time in my life I dried the dollar bill with the hair dryer...

We did a twelve mile ruck march back in July and I put my iPod in my cargo pocket and hooked my headphones to my rucksack frame behind my head so I wasn't technically wearing them and played the music where no one could see it. Well, when the march ended three hours later, I stuffed my headphones back into my pocket to hide them, went home, forgot the damn thing was in there, took off the NASTY ACUs and threw them in the washer... Oops... Luckily I had gotten the insurance plan and went and told them it just stopped working all of a sudden. I traded in my eight gig for a thirty gig video which was the same price... Go figure...

This is like admitting my dumbness but,

ants invaded our kitchen, and they would'nt go away. I thought they were coming from under the dishwasher. I thoghut I could pull the diswasher out just far enough to look, but the water hose was shorter than I thought. I pulled too hard and cracked this plastic thing where the water hose connects. Water sprayed everywhere. I tried to turn the valve off under the sink, but it was stuck. I had to run outside and turn off the main water valve. The kitchen floor was covered with water. Worse was that it was a hardwood floor. Everyone was away on vacation, so lucky me. I got it cleaned up and turned the heater on to dry up the water. The floor was a little rocky but not bad. Facking ants.

I almost ruined my zen micro by messing with it and changing the language to japanese. Took a couple days to finally get it back to english. If I could learn from my mistakes, I might be a genius by now. :D

I was in the car with a friend of mine in college when he ran over his laptop bag. The screen was shattered. We all felt bad for him, but honestly, if that were to happen to any of our group of friends, he was the most likely.

One time I dropped my laptop bag like 6 inches onto hard concrete, and the corner of my 17" Powerbook G4 got dented. 4 years later it still works fine, though.

nikitia
11-23-2007, 12:33 AM
how do you run over a laptop?

Aratos
11-23-2007, 02:05 AM
Generally by doing something stupid like leaving it on the ground.

Or on the car roof for that matter, I suppose, if it fell off in the right way.

I dropped my computer about four inches onto hard ground, and the power wouldn't turn on. I fixed that, only to have the thing turn off by itself at random and horrible times. I had to erase the hard drive (with about 200 albums of music, all my art, writing, business stuff) only to find out the support people I talked to had made a mistake, and the thing was doomed.

I've also accidently dropped my cell phone in salt water.... NEVER do that if you can help it.

I dropped my MP3 player, and the battery was shattered and wouldn't come out (it was a really old one.)

Also dropped my stylus enough times to crack it so badly it was almost coming apart.

AND in highschool I dropped my Nikon FG twice in one day, destroying the automatic capabilities.

I won't even go into the times my flashdrives corrupted the DAY of finals, with all my projects and papers on them.

Gadgets are terrified of me, obviously. And now I make constant backups of my work.

WhistleBlower
11-23-2007, 09:48 PM

I can't fugure out what happens. It's internal damage. >_>

Tajtan
11-23-2007, 09:51 PM
I wonder if it is something to do with your computer. A virus maybe that when you hook up your new iPod they keep getting damaged because of it?

WhistleBlower
11-23-2007, 10:19 PM
That's what I used to think. I'm not sure anymore because I did a whole bunch of cleaning and anti-virus(ing) with no luck.

Tajtan
11-23-2007, 10:32 PM
It just doesn't make sense why the same problem would keep happening. Any sabotaging happening in your house?

But seriously, that really sucks that it has happened so many times to you. Did you ask the iPod guys what is wrong with the ones you had replaced and what could be the possible cause? I wonder if it's not a virus, if it's some weird electrical thing - your computer is zapping the iPod somehow or something.

Aratos
11-24-2007, 06:16 AM
Could be a faulty USB port that's giving too much charge to the ipod. But if it was, it'd do that to anything else plugged in...

And no, couldn't be a virus. Only one virus that affects ipods exists, and amongst other things it requires you install linux on your ipod.

I remember about 2 years ago I went walking with one of my friends along the beach, and we had rolled up our pant legs to walk in the shalllower water. Meanwhile I had thought my cell phone was all safe and sound in my pocket because it was one you button up. Guess I was wrong, because my cell phone ended up falling out and gurgling in the water. Damn thing only worked when it wanted to after that.
That's because we were joking about it before, if something like that were to happen :/

My sister also broke my PSP, and my digital camera. It's what I get for lending things out.

My brother-in-law's MP3 player mysteriously died 5 days after he bought it. He was all excited to buy one here when he came to visit (I guess they're cheaper in the US than they are in UK...that or he just didn't want to buy one without his brother to help him pick one out *cough* co-dependant *cough*). Anywho, he got a 30GB Creative Zen and Richard helped him put all these albums and movies and stuff on it. Two days before they were to fly back to England he had it charging on his grandma's computer. When he checked it the next morning it was just kaput. To this day we have no idea what happened to it, but he sent it to the Creative HQ in england and they sent him a brand new one. Now he just has to figure out how to use it on his own....

How's this for irony? This past May we all chipped in a bought my husband a new Canon Powershot camera for his birthday. He loved it and it worked great. Last friday I was going through all my old bills and reciepts and shedded the lot. Last night didn't he ask me "Where's the reciept for my camera? The lens won't work and it's making a weird noise. It's got a one year warrenty right?"....ooops. (I thought is was only 6 months). Hopfully I can go to Staples and get them to print me out a new reciept...I know some major chain stores will do that if you give them the credit card you bought the thing on.

Tajtan
12-04-2007, 08:02 AM
Did you send in that little card you get whenever you buy something? If you did, then you probably don't need the receipt.

I dropped my CD player on the ground accidentally while I was trying to get my gloves on and it shattered the clamp that holds the door to the actual CD player, so now you have to hold it together with a rubber band. I don't really use it anymore anyway, though. Mp3 players are just so much better...

Another CD player I left outside by the pool and it got rained on. X_x

I've also had some cell phones that have gotten wet, one by me, who had it fall out of my pocket as I ran for the bus and got rained on all day, and one by my father, who forgot it was in his pocket and jumped into the lake, but both of those worked, although they aren't as good as before, after we let them air dry for about a week.

I broke my CD player at one point. Something inside kept on messing up, and after I tried to fix it, it never worked again. It's fine since I have an iPod now, but mine likes to screw with me at random times. I also lost my first cell phone after I accidentally left it in my pocket and my mom put it through the washing machine. I'm still amazed my dad trusted me with another one, though I'm still kind of sad because the one I have now doesn't record videos. Our first PS2 stopped reading the disks, and we knew it wasn't the disks that were the problem since they worked on the other one. Another gaming problem we had was with controllers. My two little brothers can get into their games a bit too much, and if they can't get past something, they usually throw the controller. I only managed to fix one, and all the others were completely destroyed. Luckily they don't play as much as they used to.

The biggest one is with computers. My family has bad luck with computers. Ever since we moved into this house, we've gone through five or more, the last one unofficially mine. My sister was showing my youngest brother how to play The Sims 2, and when I went to check something on it late at night, I got the blue screen of death. I stayed up an hour and a half trying everything to see if I could get it to work, but I knew it was a lost cause after my dad looked at it the next day. Everything saved onto it over the years (songs, art, icons, etc.) was lost. I'm still a little upset since most of them were things that I could never get back.

Aratos
12-10-2007, 02:07 AM

I've killed a few phones by throwing them, but most recently, I killed my video camera. Not sure what it's problem is, but it decided it didn't want to work. Oh well, I'm sure my parents plan to get me one for Christmas/ birthday. My mom mentioned that it'd be a combined gift, since they are pricey. Fine by me!! I'm not a kid anymore, so a big gift like that wouldn't bug me if it was the only gift they gave me. :D

Okay, here goes nothing...

1. Stylus by stepping on it.
2. Numerous DVD/CD/VHSs sat/stepped/dropped and busted beyond repair, including some hard-to-find and collector's edition ones...
3. I dropped my VHS player, tearing the frame off, but the actual player portion of it still works.
4. I've snapped off pieces of my car by accident...mainly interior except for the one time the bumper came off in my hands.
5. Snapped a 4 GB memory stick in the USB port once. That one hurt. Lots of old art and stories on it.
6. Dropped seven different cell phones in the toilet (they all fine, though) and one poor little TracFone into the sewer.
7. Accidentally kicked my mom's old desktop tower, completely destroyed it. Luckily it was one of those junk yard ones...
8. Completely demolished my brother's half-put-together chopper by running over it with my car. I needed a new driver's side tire after that one.
9. Even though this is supposed to be for electronics and tech and such, I will mention that my best friend has soaked 28 of my hard-earned manga by leaving it in my boyfriend's car (which leaks).
