Just when Apple seemed to produce the most incredible phone ever...CHINA strikes with a phone that could be even better?

iClone:
"The little gadget was bootleg gold, a secret treasure I'd spent months tracking down. The miniOne looked just like Apple's iPhone, down to the slick no-button interface. But it was more. It ran popular mobile software that the iPhone wouldn't. It worked with nearly every worldwide cellphone carrier, not just AT&T, and not only in the U.S. It promised to cost half as much as the iPhone and be available to 10 times as many consumers. The miniOne's first news teases—a forum posting, a few spy shots, a product announcement that vanished after a day—generated a frenzy of interest online. Was it real? When would it go on sale? And most intriguing, could it really be even better than the iPhone? "

iPhone:
"THE GOOD: The Apple iPhone has a stunning display, a sleek design, and an innovative multitouch user interface. Its Safari browser makes for a superb Web surfing experience, and it offers easy-to-use apps. As an iPod, it shines.
THE BAD: The Apple iPhone has variable call quality and lacks some basic features found in many cell phones, including stereo Bluetooth support and 3G compatibility. Integrated memory is stingy for an iPod, and you have to sync the iPhone to manage music content.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesn't always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player."

And they said a GEARS section was not needed.

COME ON! T_T This is an obvious proof that we need a gears section in this forum. GAWD!

Shiiiiny.

Gah. On the one hand I don't want people to think I actually use an iphone. On the other hand, it's a chinese bootleg and my instincts tell me it has unlimited potential.

Hmms, yes, just customise the case, smash it up a little, maybe do a complete remodel if poss...

I suppose they could've done a better cell phone form than the iPhone.
The name too.
"iClone"
The better clone of an iPhone..

So I have to go over to china to get a cool bit of phreaking kit? Well boo.

Also: I see unlockings are as popular as ever (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/10/23/apple_iphone_unlocked_stats/)...

I thought Apple's new firmware updates were going to make the unlocked phones useless.

Well the firmware updates so far haven't managed it. Not to mention the whole "Orange in France is obliged to sell 'em unlocked" thing. The thing about firmware is, it's so easily dealt with.

Well the firmware updates so far haven't managed it. Actually, they have.

But my opinion on this is neither. The iPhone is waaaay over priced, plus I don't like how Apple bricks unlocked iPhones instead of having that firmware restore the device. But iClone is well, just a cheap rip off. You don't buy the iPod Nano clones off eBay just like how you wouldn't buy that. Don't be stupid people.

Japan is just jealous of us Americans we come up with the best things and people have to rip off the item and say it's better when textuality it's not they are just cheap and horrible and btw I wouldn't even buy the iPhone it's stupid I think apple needs to just stick with making there computers which they do real well. Thats my opinion
