Oh but trust me readers these days love gay beast yaoi and you would get instantly published if you made your story about a gay planet where sex is the currency and people worship penisu's. Knowing your great writing skills you should be able to pull it off and soon enough you'll be famous!

Um, I think there actually is a novel (not a manga) of this. I didn't read it, but read a description on amazon of a book that sounds suspiciously close to this. It was so freaky weird sounding I stayed far, far away.

Like yaoi, yuri is also marketed primarily to girls; therefore, your suggested explanation cannot be the reason.

You are to imagine a person hanging from a tree by his legs, and when he loses his grip, he falls, and lands on his knees. Then stands up and holds out his left hand, asking you to say that he's gay.

Well, that's what I mean. When you find some manga with 18+ girl-on-girl it's generally "Oh, let's have sex">> sex. They are directed to men and then it's hentai. PWP's. Overly big boobs. That kind of thing.

What has been said:
Being into romance is neither an attribute of sex/gender nor orientation. At least IRL ;P
What REALLY wonders me: i recently encountered many times opinion (from non-yaoi people ofc) that if girl likes/draws yaoi she's lesbian. I can't get over this one: if a girl draws two naked men in a matter that should cause sexual arousal that means she is not interested in men...? Do people really think woman are unable to draw p0rn, because they would, dunno, explode? But still, men drawing/watching two girls are straight... 0o

That's why yaoi is under shoujo and most shoujo demonstrates fantasy-romance. If you want more realistic yaoi romance, try the josei subcategory.

Tsh, romance in MANGA is never realistic. The closest thing I've seen to realistic romance in any sort of fictional media was Knocked Up.
That said, I don't care for pure smut. I prefer romance rather than just smex, smex, smex.
Actually, I was rather disappointed that Surge has been the only 16+ manga from Yaoi Press I could find.

But when you browse through Y! artists a bit you can see that they often get irritated, for much people tell them they're teenage lesbians and need to get laid. It's especially amusing, when those kind of things are said to adult married women XD

From my experience, 16+ may have covered nudity (you know they're nekkid, but nothing is shown) and sexual situations, but once again nothing is shown. 18+ is when they have the nekkid.

Arguably publishers of the dirtiest material available in North America today, 801 Media (801media.com/801) was founded specifically to publish manga too hot for their parent company's main yaoi publishing outlet, June Manga. All of these books come straight from the publisher sealed shut.
Much like 801 Media, Blu (Blumanga.com) is the hard-core arm of an existing manga publisher, in this case the folks who got yaoi rolling in North America, Tokyopop.Thank you Tokyopop!!!
Just looking at their name you know relatively new outfit Dramaqueen (Onedramaqueen.com) has something up their sleeves for gay readers.
Yaoi Press (Yaoipress.com) is an enterprising group of North American yaoi fans who decided to start publishing their own yaoi. Clearly influenced by the Japanese material, these works have the benefit of coming from a background that doesn't encourage little black bars covering all the naughty bits. Their line of Yaoi Hentai books (now on their fourth volume) feature the smuttiest material they produce but the scenarios of their other titles will pique the curiosity of enterprising readers.

Ah, Yaoi Press.
At Katsucon last year my friends and I kept coming to their table in the merch room. I think I bought like... one book (:O). My friend bought a whole stack or so. The people who worked there recognized her instantly whenever she came by. :p

I'm not into that Yaoi/Yuri manga thing, but I do glace at them for ideas, I also read through the story line for emotional conversation tips...I'm not a social guy :(, but yeah their a great help when it comes to learning styles of both writing and drawing.
