well considering all the T&A shots that person has all over their walls, i'd say they're more of a perv than an otaku...then again that is a very fine line

All I see in that room is a laod of psoters, aside from in one pic. I wouldn't exactly call that obsessive.

And please let's not get int another bloody otaku debate!

That's an obvious beginner, lol. It takes way more figures, animation cels, posters, and lack of a life. Watch the Japanese drama, Akihabara @ Deep (sp?) . That show will tell you what an otaku is. That, or Denshi Otoko aka Train Man. :)

I'd call him an otaku. Tho the label is a a pointless one.

Okay, I really liked looking at these pictures. Cute room. Bright. Though not my color choice, I thought the white and aqua furniture was pretty cute together. And everything so clean and neat and tidy. :)

Not worthy of calling themselves Otaku.

Agreed, those who aren't willing to actually go buy Anime/Manga/Video Games don't deserve to be Otaku. Whatever happened to getting your stuff the old fashioned way?

Indeed. You don't earn the label 'otaku'. It's not a privilege or right. It's just a way of life. In fact certain people are offended by it. The way FFMullet2 and now TheEmperorofChaos talk, otaku is some elitist club were only who they see as 'worthy' are accepted. Such a narrow and closeminded view. We can't just sit back and focus on our common interests and go from there, no, we have to judge others by the way they get there material. Sad.

I used to think it wasn't worth it or whatever unless you bought the stuff, but after having to move twice in less than two months and having a slight fear of what could happen if there's an emergency or something, I'm thinking I should start looking into this internet anime/manga stuff like everyone else.

<_<
So I'm kind of really jealous of that guys room. >_< I wouldn't call myself obsessed but i'd craploads of stuff too if I had the money. Maybe i've got a skewed image of myself.
Also, I buy manga because I like the feel of it in my hands alot more than reading it off a computer. I don't care if people DL it, just as long as they have an interest and still have respect for the author (even if they have none for their wallet XD) i'm ok with it.
....I even do it sometimes too. But pretty much just with unlisenced stuff.

I'm not saying that the name "Otaku" is a symbol of some sort, I'm saying someone who appreciates and likes anime/manga enough that they should at least own some of it. Being Otaku isn't bad, it's just saying you love anime, etc. and I respect that. Also you're being way too serious about being worthy of being Otaku. It all depends on how you put your perspective on being "Otaku". Are you assuming that I was being serious on my comment or thinking that I am total nuthead just because you disagree with one phrase. I don't want this thread to become a conflict, I really wasn't expecting someone to be offensive.

I found a video of a japanese otaku's room and all i could see were posters but even though it doesnt look like he owns any im sure hes still obsessed.Probably because there in Japan way more anime is televised so he doesnt need to really own much

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3nVRQJISx8
but this one here I would say is extremley obsessive
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtdNjYRqUfE
You should read the comments people put on his video.it was like because he had so much anime related stuff he was some sort of god

Tajtan

The first vid is way better than the second. At least the kid in the first one has everything displayed neatly and he can enjoy it. The second one looks like a storage room with everything wrapped in plastic and several copies of each item. Not fun. But both are otaku!

I dont agree to what the guys said about american cartoons.I think they are very well written and very well inamated. The music in disney animation is amazing to me and I enjoy their classic films like alice in wonderland very much.American animation has also been doing amazingly well in 3d too and there not always for kids even in the 50's I think disney made some cartoons that werent exactly targeted to kids.I dont know if this donald duck cartoon was meant for kids but i think its messege was powerful. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Fuehrer%27s_Face I have no idea what type of american cartoons they've been watching in america.

Why be embarrassed? They were Americans having a fun time at the biggest anime/manga convention in Japan. Geeze, if I were there I'd be all ga-ga eyed and buying all the things I thought were really cool, too. And you bet I'd be sticking coins in the those machines to get the little figures. :D

True otaku my ass. >_>

Nah a true otaku has a hentai collection. A male/female otaku who is not into hentai/yaoi is not a real anime fan at all. It's bull**** I tell you.

If someone says that hentai/yaoi is disgusting when that said person is an anime fan should seriously gtfo.

You don't fully understand the concept of porn, do you? I never considered myself an otaku until all the other anime fans in my high school started asking me for suggestions on what anime to watch/manga to read. I actually kind of started to get annoyed by it and by my senior year I was feigning ignorance of that "an-ee-may stuff". >.>

What she said. D:

As for me, I'm not really sure when I became an otaku. Maybe I recall watching Genshiken, and after relating to Sasahara so much, I started believing that I was. Or when I downloaded my first hentai movie. Or maybe when I started by anime merchandise. Or maybe it was when I started preferring subs over dubs. I forget.

I knew I was Otaku when I could get away with writing a paper which topic was anime/manga (Really Japan's isolation and like it's depression and move into the real world) with hardly any research and get a good mark.
I felt that knowing and being able to appreciate the backround of it made me more Otaku then watching/reading as much as I could.

Heh, I've done two or three papers like that. I had to BS the sources though since they were required. :P Luckily when I did that paper last semester on Internet Addiction my professor counted my friends as one of the sources.

Does a room full of anime posters and anime figures make you an Otaku? I dont have any of those so I guess I'm not :P . Even if I wanted to be Otaku I probably couldn't because most times I avoid being seen by people when I watch anime or when I'm in the manga section at a bookstore mainly because I'm around people who arent anime fans and I guess I developed a dumb idea that people will think I'm a pervert if they see me watching anime and stuff...
