The hit anime based on a series of novels:
Vol 1-4 of 12+

Are there any possible plans of licensing and translating these novels?

It's under definite consideration by the Acquisitions team. 14 is a LOT of volumes, and most don't sell beyond 6 even if they have a huge anime following. A lot will depend on if/when Geneon releases it. But we're discussing it with enthusiasm, as the Acquisitions team are fans of them.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go dance with joy in the corner over there.

Hopefully these will come our way. The animes made a fan out of me and would definatly snap these up.

Now that it's basically set in stone that Geneon is releasing the anime, I'm curious to see if TokyoPop will get to translate the novels? Really enjoyed the anime, and I'd love to read the source of it all.

I'd like to see these novels licensed too. I also want to see the manga licensed.
just out of curosity, have you guys ever considered merging the novels? Or having more than 1 in a print... So instead of 14 200 page books, you'd make 7 400 pagers? and charge more? I assume its probably cheaper to print too.

Yes, we're doing that with Adventures of Duan Surk and Twelve Kingdoms. SnS was picked up by another company, I believe.

I think there's 14, 12 main story and 2 side story. Or something like that.

Oh boy. And here I was hoping for a relatively unedited version from Tokyopop T_T. I HOPE Viz doesn't change anything in SnS in an attempt to make it more "Kid-friendly"....Is there any way for me to contact them to inquire the fact? I can't find a link to the Viz message board on their site, if they even have one.
Edit: Well, theres always Zero no Tsukaima to look forward to ^^

I really liked the anime, so it would be nice to read the books. But I really hate censorship too you know? Knowing Viz, the implied incest between two of the villians is probably going to go to the wayside..which is unfortunate, as the meeting with them seems to have had a major impact on Shana realizing her own feelings..
And Zero no Tsukaima seems like it would be fun to read as well, if the anime is any indication. :)

I actually enjoyed the Shakugan no Shana anime (which entails the first and last episode so far, I have terrible patience lmfao) and I definetlly wouldn't mind reading more novels. I have a thing for the stories they come up with in Japan. Seems so different then the stories you find here. I like the way they think up stories in Japan. ;D lol

If Viz changes anything I will set them on fire.

Has there been any kind of release date for the novels yet? Even a tentative one?
Also, I heard a rumor that the upcoming Shakugan no Shana movie is just going to be a retelling of the first novel. Can anyone confirm this?

I can't believe it!
I'd buy all 14 volumes for sure.
